The way the shield was "wrapped" around the hull in the "Remember Reach" trailer, that was perfect IMO.

Reading the books, I alaways imagined more of a bubble-like shield like this. I recommend trying combining this with the other hugging-model to make a version thats loosely following the shape of the hull, except more in a bubble-form as opposed to hugging it.
