Our representation of Halo's iconic space combat in the Homeworld 2 engine, which puts the player in command of some of the most powerful weapons fielded by the UNSC and Covenant and to provide a balanced and competitive experience.
Thanks to Helge129 for pointing out the shields in the Halo Reach trailer "Remember Reach." I figured out a nice and easy way to do hugging bubble shields that are very close to the trailer I think.
Also, shield hit effects. Was inspired to do them based on the only interpretation I could find:
Halopedia.org
Still playing with effect size atm.
...Is that frigate about to explode?
Right now the shield flicker only occures when the ship is about to die. We're still experimenting on how to do shields right now.
Oh, so you have "fake" shields right now?
Doesn't HW2 support shields in vanilla?
It does, but defense fields are not shields. A defense field can be turned on and off with the T button, and blocks all projectiles who have 0 penetration against a defense field, while also letting those with higher than 0 through by a percentage-based chance.
There are ways to get a defense field to be tied to a subsystem, and shut down when the subsystem dies, but it's very limited in what effects you can do with that.
So what's your plan with shields?
Couldn't you just make a subsystem with the same amount of HP you want to give the shield?
Subsystems can't be animated, so the only way to make this work is to have a script that would automatically rebuild the subsystem after the ship regenerates such amount of health after it failed or something.
You should try making it work similarly to the vaygr flagship armor asset in the complex mod. It's a destructible virtual subsystem.
That thing looks hella nice!
This is the best so far.
Will the shield do a ripple explosion like in Reach? xD Doubt it, but it'd be sweet.
