I happen to like the fact that sub are glass cannons, they shouldn't be able to go head to head with other warships in the first place. It forces the player to use subs how they are suppose to: attacking undefended merchant ships, and cripple warships. IMHO, subs should act as an area denial unit. Btw, whats your take on the idea of midget subs(the italians and japanese made really good use of them) and float planes.

since aircraft can't land, touch the ground, and are ethereal objects float planes would be purely cosmetic.

mini subs... well, I guess we could just make a smaller version of the regular sub by changing the size designation in the TGI file.

Sorry I should have clarified a bit on these two. Give some ships the ability to deploy float planes for recon. I'm sure if change the current flight path that carriers have so that it is to the side and slightly lower, it could work. While carriers wouldn't need this, battleships and cruisers would benefit greatly. As for midget subs, my idea is for either seasonable sub used in the same manner as a saboteur or deploy-able sub similar to bombers. I hope this clears things up.

have you played any version of the existing mod yet?

right now battleships and cruisers can reach targets all the way on the other side of the smaller and medium-sized maps.

it's true that adding float planes to capital ships would be historically accurate. it would greatly enhance their offensive ability... but it also makes battleships and cruisers nearly unstoppable in the early stages of the game.

maybe if I forced all destroyers to wait three minutes between recharge, cruisers wait six minutes, and battleships wait 9 minutes I could see the value in giving them recon float planes. with those long delay times between salvos players under fire could at least try to relocate and force them to send another recon flight before they get killed by the second salvo.

if we doubled or tripled the health of buildings to counter the power of battleships and cruisers that might make the recon float planes less of a game changer.

Description

the other day we were able to integrate multiple torpedo tube attacks for submarines. it was a bit astonishing to see a Japanese submarine sink a battleship with a single torpedo 'spread'. but it was also very exciting. as a general rule subs will have to wait 600-800 seconds to reload their tubes. so it's best to make that first attack REALLY count. right now if a submarine attack fails to kill it's intended victim it will almost certainly die.

I'll have to look into giving submarines higher defense values and resistances to help alleviate their present "glass cannon" status. any surface ship can easily target them with their main guns and take out a sub with one or two salvos. at least now submarines stand a very good chance of sinking most vessels below a battleship with a single torpedo spread.
