Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut
Oct 31, 2007 Full Version 68 commentsThe full version of Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut.

Your name is David Leatherhoff, and you're addicted to a new painkiller from a company unknown
They keep coming, and you can't stop taking them.
Lately you have started to experience illusions, dreams picking at your deepest and darkest fears.
Finally, you go to the Hospital, seeking help. First, however, you make a stop into the bathroom, where another bottle of pills awaits you, standing out like a beacon in the night in your depraved eyes.
When will it all stop?
Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut is a survival horror mod for Half-Life 1. It is an enhanced version of the original Afraid of Monsters.
What's new?

It has been 2 years since this mod got released, so I wanted to somehow celebrate it. The only way I can think of how, is to show you ModDB members, who might have missed this mod, that it exists! As it has been Halloween, I thought that this would be quite interesting to post, as this is a horror mod. Well fitting for this kind of weather and atmosphere that is going on right now.
You play a guy named David, who is a drug-addict. He can no longer stand it out, so he decides to seek help at a hospital. When he's there, as addicted he is, he goes into a restroom and takes some more pills. But this time, it goes very wrong. From the pills you take, you start to experience hallucinations, and those hallucinations are your enemies. But you can't stop take the pills, because then you will die.
The mod has four different endings and altarnate routes, which makes it interesting to replay it. And if you see all those endings, you will be rewarded with a secret neat item. There are also plenty of secret hidden things that you can find.
As you might understand, this mod is an improvement of the older version Afraid of Monsters. I made Afraid of Monsters alone, so it didn't turn out that well. So with Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut, I got help from James Marchant, Minuit, with very much things.
Currently, me and James and some other people, are working with a new Half-Life 1 horror mod called Cry of Fear. It has the same theme, and we think you might like it if you like this mod.
I know some people have complained about an error which says: "Cache_TryAlloc: 12708976 is greater than free hunk" There is a simple fix to that error if you're using Steam. Right click the game in Steam, click properties, click "Set Launch Options", then type;
"-heapsize 512000"
There is one more thing I would like to say before this news ends, and that is; how many people would like to see a proper Co-op "expansion" to this mod? If you want, we might be able to make it. That was it for this news. I hope you like Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut, and my other upcoming project.

This is just some very small gameplay, so you can see how it's kinda going to be. The quality is very bad, that's because I just don't want to spoil so...

NOOO I don't wanna play this mod, its creepy
yes its creepy, but AMAZING!!!!
agreed!
Am i the only one who got a David Firth vibe from this mod?
I've had a glitch in the forest level, at the point where you need to hit the two buttons on the ground near the small house that opens up the blue gate and turns on the field lights that lead u to the underground area. every time i hit one of the buttons the autosave loads up and i just keep doing it all over again with no prevail. How can i fix this D: ?
um hello? can anyone give me any help or words of advice to fix this?
the problem i think is
'Couldn't open file overviews/1carforest.txt. Using default values for overiew mode'
The trailer is enough to scare me away off the mod 0_0 ...
I remember playing this mod a hell of a long time ago (back before there any branching paths, at least I don't remember any branching paths), and I gotta say, this mod still scares the living **** out of me.
Thanks for the endless nights of fright [and extremely quick monsters]!
Lol! Sounds a bit ****** up.
