Your name is David Leatherhoff, and you're addicted to a new painkiller from a company unknown

They keep coming, and you can't stop taking them.

Lately you have started to experience illusions, dreams picking at your deepest and darkest fears.

Finally, you go to the Hospital, skeeking help. First, however, you make a stop into the bathroom, where another bottle of pills awaits you, standing out like a beacon in the night in your depraved eyes.

When will it all stop?

Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut is a survival horror mod for Half-Life 1. It is an enhanced version of the original Afraid of Monsters.

What's new?

  • New monsters (no Half-Life reskin) and weapons
  • Flashlight can only work with batteries that you pick up
  • Improved maps and totally new maps
  • 4 different endings and altarnate routes
  • Random monster spawns
  • New hud, sprites, textures, sounds, models and animations
  • And a lot of other improvements!

It has been 2 years since this mod got released, so I wanted to somehow celebrate it. The only way I can think of how, is to show you ModDB members, who might have missed this mod, that it exists! As it has been Halloween, I thought that this would be quite interesting to post, as this is a horror mod. Well fitting for this kind of weather and atmosphere that is going on right now.

Some quick info about the mod:

You play a guy named David, who is a drug-addict. He can no longer stand it out, so he decides to seek help at a hospital. When he's there, as addicted he is, he goes into a restroom and takes some more pills. But this time, it goes very wrong. From the pills you take, you start to experience hallucinations, and those hallucinations are your enemies. But you can't stop take the pills, because then you will die.

The mod has four different endings and altarnate routes, which makes it interesting to replay it. And if you see all those endings, you will be rewarded with a secret neat item. There are also plenty of secret hidden things that you can find.

With good things comes even better things

As you might understand, this mod is an improvement of the older version Afraid of Monsters. I made Afraid of Monsters alone, so it didn't turn out that well. So with Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut, I got help from James Marchant, Minuit, with very much things.

You can find Afraid of Monsters here:

Moddb.com

Currently, me and James and some other people, are working with a new Half-Life 1 horror mod called Cry of Fear. It has the same theme, and we think you might like it if you like this mod.

You can find Cry of Fear here:

Error fix

I know some people have complained about an error which says: "Cache_TryAlloc: 12708976 is greater than free hunk" There is a simple fix to that error if you're using Steam. Right click the game in Steam, click properties, click "Set Launch Options", then type;

"-heapsize 512000"

Co-op

There is one more thing I would like to say before this news ends, and that is; how many people would like to see a proper Co-op "expansion" to this mod? If you want, we might be able to make it. That was it for this news. I hope you like Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut, and my other upcoming project.

This is just some very small gameplay, so you can see how it's kinda going to be. The quality is very bad, that's because I just don't want to spoil so...

Can anyone tell me how to get the 2nd ending? It's the only ending I haven't gotten. Does it matter what order you get the endings in? The first time I played through I got the 3rd ending. I made sure to make a save at the beginning of the last level so that I could go right to the 4th ending once I got the code. I then got the 1st ending. After that I loaded up my save at the last level and got the 4th ending. (I was still missing one piece of the code so I asked around for it here on ModDB.) So now I'm ready to play through one more time to get the 2nd ending, but I have no idea how to get it. I watched a video walkthrough on YouTube on how to get it, but it only confused me. The guy in the walkthrough does everything that I did to get the 3rd ending, only he somehow gets the 2nd ending. I don't know what you have to do differently to get the 2nd ending instead of the 3rd. Can anyone help me? That's the one bad thing about mods, no strategy guides or official walkthroughs. :)

You need to continue through the city to the right of the subway, and go down to some dumpsters, you must not go to the park.

Do the puzzle with the Devil statue, and you will find your way.

well since no one got back to me i think il just say that it is possible to run this without halflife on steam youl need the 1.1.1.0 patch for halflife and creat a folder for the mod and run it through the game optino in halflife..i couldent get the steam way to work. would be nice to run it on halflife source though..that looks alot better.
