James! I had to take the time to comment on your work. What you've done is really incredible. It's not just because you created high quality content that carries the spirit of Half-Life and is a blast to play, and it's not just because you released content for a game series whose fans are losing hope of ever seeing the series continue, it's also that you REVIVED the discussion, activity and love that we all remember from the heyday of HL1 modding!
For the first time in years, everybody is back in hl.exe, everybody is talking about an HL mod, everybody is excited about the game again, about your work, and the legacy represented by it. That my friend is an absolute GIFT I was so happy to receive this month, and I was more stoked to play this than anything else released recently. Like you HL1 shaped how I see games in a lot of ways, and your mod plays great and is full of memorable moments. Thanks for your passion and this gift to the community.
You guys just nailed. Really, just absolutely nailed it. Naturally there will always be a few nitpicks here and there, but I'm surprised how few of them I had. Great work. Stellar achievement. Not only does this stand on its own like the original Half-Life as a great shooter, but it's elevated even more so by its great sense of continuity into HL2, so that replaying the series with this in the place of HL1 will feel more cohesive and stronger than ever.
Bring on XEN, this games needs its CONCLUSION!
That's fairly unrealistic without a complete revamping of most of the sounds and sprites being used, many of which are from retail games and are copyrighted material...
And the mod really is great, but it's always better free, extending the life of the original game and allowing more people to enjoy it
You guys have really brought ROTT back from the dead. Flawless reconstruction of the features of the original, with a new zdoom twist, fun as hell. Great work!
Just tried it with that revision and it works. Cheers!
This mod is amazing. Ever since I got it I've been using it on every map pack I can get my hands on, as well as replaying Doom1 & 2 with it. Fantastic work, gives new life to this game while creating its own new balance and not wearing out its welcome.
Doesn't work with newer versions of Zdoom, either v2.5 or the SVN revisions. Hopefully the author will update it!
There was a glitch with saving that prevented me from completing the mod. I was really enjoying it but I didn't want to restart and have to fetch everything all over again just to see how it concludes.
I had to quit the game but when I went back to the custom story and clicked "continue", I was in the "tunneling honesty" section. I ran through and it seemed I had already collected everything in that section previously, but the tunnel was not blocked by growths as it was when I last entered. I went through, proceeded to get chased from both ends, but could not enter the grate in the floor. I could only open it slightly, and trying to mess around more just got me killed (had no time before slashed in half from behind).
I wanted to enjoy this mod because it was so excellent up until that point and whatever bugs are involved just killed it. Off to watch the youtube playthrough!
Download link is broken! Luckily I could get it through one of the mirrors, but the first 3 didn't work.
Looking forward to running around this beautiful map.
Hey!
If this mod is still alive, I'd love to work on some music for you guys.
I'm a big fan of the Koh Ohtani soundtrack from SotC and can produce stylistically similar music if that's the feel you're going for.
Just let me know and I'll put together a brief demo of music for you.
So far, very scary and original mod, liking it a lot, BUT...
"Remember, blue light to blue door"
After pressing the switch here, I am absolutely stuck. Where can I possibly go from here?
You should be able to see through the main glass part of the ballistics helmet, if not, that's a bug
"Real-life beating you down huh?"
Haha, that's a fair description. Lucky thing I decided to check my ModDB today so I could catch your comment!
I will definitely let you know when I need help with the voice acting. If it takes me too long and I lose the opportunity to have your help, I will just have to live with it, since a lot is going on right now and I haven't worked on this much.
D3adlode - you mentioned Clive Barker as an influence.
For the creation of this mod, I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you play the game "Clive Barker's Undying" for inspiration and influence. It's an unmissable horror game title.
This is looking cool so far, nice atmosphere - good luck with it.
Just finished playing through the mod, 1.0 version. I'm very impressed, bump mapping and shine effects, great music, intense atmosphere, top-notch scripting, great gunfights. My only complaint would be that the beginning is slow, but moreover, lacks flow compared to the rest of the episode. Apart from that, it was generally well-paced, and there were definitely a few "wow" moments that made this mod one of the best singeplayer mods I've ever played, both gameplay-wise and graphically.
What you've done with the HL engine is quite commendable. Not only is there lots of detail and new graphical features, but the AI also feels more responsive, and friendly AI is much more useful than ever and hardly ever gets in your way, instead becoming quite a useful asset. The gas mask and face shield were nice touches, not only balanced but also adding a lot to the gritty atmosphere of the game.
The final battle was great, I'm glad I didn't have to fight some uber-powerful monster, so that was a VERY WISE CHOICE on the mod team's part to make the final battle as they did.
Keep it up guys! One day, convert this to Source. I'll be there, ready to play it through again when you do...
So this MUST be on the Source engine, so why is it being called a mod for Half-Life?
It is the Source engine, there is no way this is Goldsource.
Hey guys, nominated for MOTY again. This is too promising to not follow. Keep up the amazing work, and even though it's taking a long time, please don't rush it - take the time to make it amazing, we can wait!
Sweet! Preserves the "clean" look and feel that the original area had, while still being nicely detailed!
AMAZING
But too many little cases on his front...
Looking VERY cool, nice interpretations
I think this hut should have a little hanging lamp as opposed to fluorescent lights, would look cooler.
That face is ******* amazingly detailed.
Keep up the great work guys.
I'm a Toronto resident and have been all my life and - what can I say - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this mod and continuing to work on it! If only I were well-versed in Source I would most definitely help you. However, I need to finish a mod project for a certain older game before I take my leap to Source.
Wow, this is such a frickin' cool concept.
The 3d models you've made so far, the way you've made them look as if they really could be built purely out of real lego piece... it's ingenious!!
An old cargo train with seats and poles to hold on to?
