Rise of the Reds

Mod review

The added content is truely superb. It even excels the original in quality yet it still retains the C&C feel. Every unit is believable in this exaggerated military universe. Voice overs have great humor, sound effects really give the weaponry a good feeling. The sheer amount of content makes this look like multiple games at once.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Game review

Essentially a polish update to get this on the same level with regular AAA titles. Sounds and music are well done just as the models. It adds some popular community developed game modes without the need for server admins to install mods. The workshop is a great way to browse for new maps. Buy it when it is heavily discounted especially if you already own Counter-Strike: Source.

Wreckage

Mod review

I guess first person shooters age pretty fast. The engine seems pretty outdated and the weapon handling is too arcady for my taste. Mission scripting is well done and the cut scenes even with voice overs are pretty good. I had several crashes and sadly not much fun in-game with this.

Insurgency

Game review

The weapon handling and modular equipment system works very well. Also the realistic damage system really pays off. It makes you walk through the maps really careful. The game is still very accessible.

Alien Swarm

Game review

Sadly the campaign is short, gameplay slightly spammy and the leveling not very rewarding, but still this is an awesome co-op horror shooter. Level design, lightning and the 3rd person perspective work very well together.

Source

Engine review

My favorite commercial engine. It performs nicely on my subnotebook with an integrated Intel HD 4000. While usually 3D engine ages so very fast the constant updates make those awesome Valve games still look good on todays standard. Well crafted and a sane business decision to keep games constantly updated rather than creating boring sequels which is the video game industry standard. The Steam integration is so well done, it makes me forget that I don't really own the game, it is full of DRM and my subscription can be canceled any time.

NS2:Combat

Mod review

This feels like it has been done by the original developers itself because it looks so polished. Really impressive. The first thing I subscribed on Steam Workshop.

Half-Life: Dreamcast

Mod review

The changes made for the Dreamcast are barely noticeable. 99% of this mod is simply a copyright violation of the original Half-Life 1 game.

NEOTOKYO°

Mod review

I am canon fodder as a newbie, but I still give this mod my appreciation. The graphics are astonishing and the gameplay with thermo-optically camouflage is also very interesting. Oh and yes I love "Ghost in the Shell".
