I've been on ModdB for roughly 7 years now. I Joined up to get some C&C mods and have basically checked in almost everyday ever since. The First Decade of Command & Conquer and Battlefield 1942/Vietnam/2142 are basically my childhood, but as of late I've moved onto tactical shooters such as ARMA, Rainbow Six, Insurgency or singleplayer RPGs like Bioshock or Deus Ex. Still a big fan of strategy games, but admittedly I'm still not very great at them. I'm usually pretty interested in playing with friends new and old. Got a couple groups I usually play with currently, but I wouldn't mind hooking up with some of the many respectable people here on ModdB as well.
Underwhelming. If I was to choose one word to describe this mod, that'd be it. But first, let me back that up with my once-through experience.
This mod had exactly what they wanted to do in mind, but I found the execution to be poor. The voice acting was a welcomed surprise, until the lack of enthusiasm and emotion became apparent. Along with the lack of subtitles for them left me only catching keywords, and never fully understanding what I was supposed to do. The AI did not seem like how it was cracked up to be. Examples below.
When the AI was in combat, I noticed nothing impressive. Although the 'unused' Combine voices was noticed and positively received.
From the apartment scene through the entire mod, I found myself confused where I was supposed to go. Once the helicopter was destroyed, I was told to meet up with the rest of my crew, and go through the alley out the back. There was no alley out the back. It was across the street. And when were they put under my charge? Wasn't I just one of them, and not some sort of badass like Gordon Freeman? Speaking of him, wasn't the uprising in C17 inspired by him? Yet he's never mentioned once? But I might have missed that, if it was. I tend to rely on subtitles.
Combat seemed very modern. How the weapons, sounded, handled, and appeared was very nice. Along with a lack of cross hairs, kept me using my sights not becoming an MLG hip fire pro. Except for this revolver: Steamcommunity.com
I also discovered locations I wasn't supposed to be in. Such as becoming a slug and crawling through the sludge in the canals, and getting behind a wall. Example, and location show below.
It's not a BAD mod, but it's not GOOD either.
This is a VERY immersive mod, the best I've played so far. I find myself making plans and quick decisions, do I hold and fight or try to run around? There are several great features that this mod has, such as checking ammo and shoving. The maps, weapons, and atmosphere are extremely well made. Better then some professional work I've seen. However due to this, it may slow down poorer machines. Thankfully mine's can handle this work of horrific art.
Definitely deserves a 9/10 or 10/10!
This mod is excellent. The new effects, visuals, units and gameplay make this a sheer joy for strategy game fans. It definitely is fast-paced gameplay. Each faction is unique, although you will see and enjoy the references made to factions in previous C&C games. Although the game lacks voicing and the AI isn't that much of a challenge. Its not a big issue for me personally. I've played C&C 3 enough to subconsciously keep track of credits, and approximate build times without EVA telling me. There are definitely some issues that need to be ironed out which I have no doubt Henford will do. The small selection of Fallout maps isn't great, but with the promise of more maps and no doubt players will make some of their own. I'm content to wait.
Currently online, or LAN play will be the big test when players go toe to toe with each other. This will prove how balanced the game really is.
I'm excited for the next release. Be it voicing, maps, or better AI. This mod is definitely already one of my top favorites.
The game is amazing. The graphic quality, and wise-crack jokes and comebacks make it a pleasure to play. Seeing old faces, tanks, and weapons all redone in higher quality really made my day. A definite 10/10 but it could easily be rated lower for those with poorer systems.
