Before being imprisoned for eternity, Mephistopheles, the Lord of Darkness, put his sinister knowledge into several tomes which were scattered across the land. Many wicked souls were corrupted by the Devil and spent their lives searching for the wretched Tomes of Mephistopheles, to gain the knowledge of their unholy power. It has been foretold that the beholder of the Tomes will possess the greatest power known to mankind and will rule the world, but will corrupt it and leave it in ruins. The secret society known as the Deputies of Uriel dispatched its most skillful members to find the Tomes and destroy them at any cost. Will you fulfill your duty or succumb to the corruption of the Dark Lord ? Tomes of Mephistopheles is a first-person action-RPG dungeon crawler. With its fast-paced fluid combat, a multitude of medieval and magical weapons, an in-depth custom spell system, and randomly generated persistent worlds, ToM is a pinnacle of the genre. *Not all the features available yet

Tomes of Mephistopheles alpha 0.06a gameplay trail - Desura

Find and kill Pain Elemental in the alpha 0.06a ! It's challenging, but possible and rewarding :)
The AI is smarter and tougher now, networking is smoother and lag is lesser. I would imagine it's so much more fun to find the mini-boss with your friend and kill it!

Your participation in alpha-funding is critical, so please don't hesitate and get the alpha:

Sooo, how to update the game if it's not on Desura again? :)

Download the patch from e-Shoppe (login > My Account > Download links or something like that) If you have the original alpha installed, and all previous patches installed, you simply untar 0.08a to the game's folder and enjoy (on Windows prerequisites are the same, except that you run 0.08a installer and it will do the job).

Thanks! Unfortunately this version seems to need GLIBC_2.15.

Any idea which package in need to install for Ubuntu 32bit?

TIA

The source code is there, simply compile it and you will have the game running. That's a downside of being on Linux - no consistency between distros.

Unzip engine_source.zip, go into the engine_source/ type "make sdl-release", once it's done, type "make sv-release" (no "" in both cases). You will have darkplaces-sdl and darkplaces-dedicated binaries. Rename them into tomesofmephistopheles or tomesofmephistopheles64 (depending on what your OS is) and tomesofmephistopheles-dedicated or tomesofmephistopheles64-dedicated accordingly. Copy and replace original binaries with the ones from engine_source/ folder and enjoy :)

or just compile your linux release with a _reasonable_ glibc version...

?

That's Linux for you, sorry :) Windows version runs on XP/Vista/7 no matter what.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on my work station and I installed Ubuntu 12.04 32bit on my kid's PC just to supply both 32/64 bit binaries. I physically can't have different glibc installed and I linking it statically is not recommended by the engine's devs.

Eventually, most Linux users will migrate to the newer glibc, so why not to do it now? :)
