ALPHAFUNDING +FAILED+ | TEAM GOT DISPERSED In order to continue development, we have to put a new team together, and fund the game through alternative source of funding. That will take some time. This project has not been abandoned. Unless information comes from the official source, please disregard online rumors. Indie game dev is a very tough business and the year 2013 is even tougher due to many new indie studios funded by former AAA developers. Competition for human resources and funding is fierce. People who believed it the game and ordered alpha - huge thank you, you will never be forgotten and when the game is resurrected, we will make it up to you, somehow. Thank you for understanding.

Seeing no feedback for the new features we implemented I figured Desura client doesn't ping owners of the game that there was an update. Therefore I made a screencast about new features including spellcrafting and new menu. We hope you will appreciate these features and will make some cool let's play style videos of you and your buddies chopping up skelies together online and growing your magical powers :)

"A first-person action-RPG dungeon crawler."

And it doesn't have enough backing for a programmer to stay interested.

This is a type of RPG game that is sorely under-represented nowadays, and ToM is the closest I've seen to a modern-day Ultima Underworld. WHY IS THERE NOT MORE INTEREST IN THIS!?

I hope this project continues eventually, I am desperate to see a game like this released in full. Delver is excellent, but it isn't enough.

Well, the issue is for once, is that there wasn't a lot of interest. So folks like you just finding out about the game when it's too late (press didn't care for the game, so I don't think there was a way to reach the target audience). One the second though, this random dungeon system is utterly faulty. I figured out a much better system that allows for randomness, but much more controlled and prettier/diverse environments. Combat was all wrong too (to my personal taste). So, after Steel Storm 2 is made and released, I'll get back to ToM and redesign it.

You should launch a Kickstarter campaign to recruit people to help you finish the game.

Game looks amazing. Lots of mumbling and not enough doing in the video I checked. Has my interest. But if it's another unfinished work that will never get completed, I am wasting my time keeping tabs on it.

No content means not much to show. Keep your eye on it, eventually it will get back to life and will be released.

So it's going down the drain ? Sadly, this happens when funding isn't offered :( to not so well known possible gems.

It's not down the drain per se. But without a programmer who is on the same page with me, there is no way to finish the game. Press not picking it up played a huge role in demise too.
That being said, I have to redesign the game, find right person for programming (or move current team that works on another game to ToM when another game is finished), and make it happen.

Even though the staus of this game is up in the air at the moment, I still do not regret buying this.

$20 is much for a game without a demo. I love the idea of a new first person dungeon crawler, but without a demo to let me get a feel for the game, I'm tempted to just avoid this game. Are you planning to offer a small demo for those of us who would like to playtest your game?

Dear Tomes of Mephistopheles users,

Unfortunately, due to the lack of funding, the lead programmer had to find a day job and he quit commercial game development altogether. That is a set back I would have to deal with.

Indie game development can be fun when there is time and money to back up the project. Most of the time it's a struggle, unfortunately. This project isn't being cancelled, it's just being pushed back.

Hopefully I can put together a new team to continue working on the game, but as I mentioned earlier somewhere on the Net, the game was not following my vision and pretty much dead ended.

I know some of you (or many of you) will be disappointed. However the game was not scheduled to be released any time soon anyway. This set back will allow me to define goals much more clearly for the new team to come and ensure that development goes according to layed out plan.

Thank you for your understanding. As soon as I have some news, I will let you know.

Oh yeah on a side note: I understand not havign to do a day job means more time that COULD be spent on making the game, but does not mean in any way that it WOULD. Money and endless free time shouldn't be a motivator to making something you enjoy.

You dont need money to make an indie game. I don't know what world you are living in but certainly not in the real world XD Games can be made just as easily if you had a day job or not. Quitting making a game because of a dayjob is just a lame excuse - why make it in the first place if it wasnt fun to work on? Honestly, this mind frame people have with dayjob = no indie games is just stupid. You either have fun making it (as an indie should) or don't make it all. Want to go professional just to make an income, get a job with the big companies.
