ScrumbleShip is the most accurate space combat simulation devised to date. Gather resources, construct a capital ship out of individual blocks, then pilot it with AI or human help against other players.
These engines are ginormous - You, sir, will be able to transform your crew to raspberry jam without even trying.
These might double as weapons. A one second burn of up to 50G's may be survivable for some members of your crew. So turn your engines towards the enemy, burn when you're as close to him as you can manage, and just those engines off directly after. With luck, enemy casualties will exceed yours!
Funny thing, I was just thinking about the Kzinti Lesson. I think I will just dub the engines Pandora's Box.
I have to disappoint you though, keeping with the spirit of the ship, most of those are just backups for when someone decides she is too nice not to be blown up.
That may be true, but every action has an equal and opposite reaction... Ramming things harder than necessary will result in bad times had by all, even if I order my crew into crash couches.
But it'd be a hell of way to go! :D
I hadn't thought of that. Interesting idea.... I could even order the crew back onboard after the impact, or to board the enemy ship.
If I were going to use pods, I'd have to make darn sure the ship was really going to hit first! It'd be embarrassing to bail out, only to have the ram sail on by the enemy, with us stuck in escape pods!
Guess who's getting scrumble ship? Yep! :) And my brother... He heard about it when i was talking to my friends and would not stop bugging me about it, I was going to get the deluxe but have to get the two fulls instead but it does give you more money does it not?
If I were to make a ramming ship, I'd have it sort of sharp, but with a tip that opens up into a rocket, so you can vent plasma INTO the ship you're ramming!
There already are minor lighting effects. Expect these to get better in the future.
People also seem to object to the massively flood-ey flashlight the player character carries. I think I'll be transforming it into more of a traditional flashlight.
Hmmm... this would not be realistic, I agree, but would help to better see ship shapes & 3d structure.
If you really don't want to have external lighting, maybe a good occlusion could help...
The back end of CMDKeen's "Pandora".

I did notice the large ridge of blocks around the edge, which I assume is armor against glancing shots.

Imagine that many rockets on the Splattering Ram. You could probably knock a decent sized hole in a planet.

Ecsape pods maybe? That could make for some fun battles.

Awesome, ohzee : ) Your support is sincerely appreciated.
Also, you can upgrade to deluxe for the cost difference at any time- so if you still want it later, you could grab it then.
Cheers,
Dirk
Oh there is? I did not know! Thanks guess we both are getting deluxe :)
Those are some wicked engines, CMDKeen! And they're attached to what looks like a pretty big ship - I'd like to see the rest of her!
If I were to make a ramming ship, I'd have it sort of sharp, but with a tip that opens up into a rocket, so you can vent plasma INTO the ship you're ramming!
Interesting idea... I'll have to check the feasibility of that strategy when Dirkson adds actuator blocks!
:)
"Commander, we've pierced the hull!"
"Vent the plasma through the ram, fry them from the inside out!"
Nice! Will the physics mean that two many rockets could actually rip the ship apart? Or, if they were on a seperate section, rip the section off?
Very yes.
But usually, you'll end up turning the residents of the ship into jam before you break apart the ship with engines.
-Dirk
Sorry, not about jam, but will there be some lighting in the future ?

Have it as bright as one of the lights you can place inside the ship...
It's already insanely bright. To see a ship without it, punch the "f" key.
Alternatively, to adjust the flashlight brightness, use F5/F6

I mean from outside, no directional light coming from stars/space ?
Anyway, I'll try flashlight!
Try to navigate around the forest during a new moon and you'll discover that stars do not put out navigable light :D
Took me forever to find that damn camp.
Eventually I will model some ambient light from nearby stars, but there aren't nearby stars yet.
