Overgrowth takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals are forced to use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to engage each other in battle. Combining 3rd person adventure platforming with intricate melee combat, Overgrowth achieves a unique feel. Overgrowth also benefits from Wolfire's brand new Phoenix Engine which has been built from the ground up to allow the use of cutting edge graphics, animation, and physics. Add to these exciting features Overgrowth’s realistic artificial intelligence and streamlined control system and the result is an astoundingly immersive experience.

In this video, David demonstrates hostage taking with weapons (plus executions) and weapon sticking into enemies when thrown.

Posted by jeffr on Jan 23rd, 2012

Here is the latest in our new weekly Overgrowth alpha format! David himself took some time to illustrate the traditional changelog in video form.

Don't forget that you can help support us, try out our weekly alphas (such as the one in the video), and chat with other preorderers in the Secret Preorder Forum by preordering Overgrowth.

Be sure to watch it in HD!

The features highlighted in the above video are as follows (among some extra ones thrown in for good measure):

- Added knife hostage animation (replaces choke when using knife)
- Added throat cut (press attack during knife hostage)
- Added one-handed body drag when wielding weapon
- Initial sticking and cutting for thrown sharp weapons
- Sharp weapons check sharpness maps for collision type
- Weapon-throw AI leads moving targets, calculates arc and number of spins needed

Thanks as always for all the support! See you guys in IRC and the forums.

Also, feel free to support us by preordering Overgrowth!

Also your thoughts for the Game desing are very interesting. I learned some things about 3D Game Programming through your Videos. :D
Also your Skills in Programming are very amazing. Some People (like me. XD) can only dream of programming-skills like yours. ^^

I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took a knive into my head.
Somehow this came into my mind when watching this video.
Just a short question I somehow were thinking about in the last weeks. I know your engine is very flexible to work with but, are all this things you did in the last weeks hardcoded in the engine itself or are they modifyable/skriptable like all the other changes? Since I realised that Natural Selection 2 is a nearly complete skripted game (nearly everything is based on lua files) I am curious if other games also are this modifyable (and because Overgrowth always looked heavy modifyable I thought I should ask you about it).

All this disturbing violence paired up with the theme of rabbits and other animals... Are you making a Watership Down simulator?

ChromeAngel Jan 23 2012 replied:

Aye, ever since the dev video introducing weapons this rabbit dude has been getting scarier...

Are you going to have some part of the game where a wolf warrior is taunting a group of rabbit civilians, saying "Ha! Rabbits! You're not scary!", just to have a rabbit ninja up from behind and slit his throat?

Guys i'd really like to preorder the game but to me there's a problem with the methods of pay cause i don't have the "means" to use them. Anyway, since pre-ordering is not an option for me atm i'm definitely buying the final product. The only way I see fit to me is through paysafecard wich is supported by steam in my country. Are you planning a release on steam?

I see a lot of passion in your work. It allawys fill my eyes. keep it up.

They need to add back being able to repeatably stab your enemies while they are on the ground like in Lugaru.

Following some comments of up... agree, each day is more creepy, I hope do not see gore meat and those things.

Also... lol, Watership Down: anthro campaign... soon? sounds great idea, I want to lead the rabbits, fight, listen the prophecies and liberate the prisons... All the world will be your enemy, prince with a thousand enemies... It will works perfectly. o3o

Responding Mkilbride:

Nah, if someone do yiff of lugaru or overgrowth, nobody will notice it, because the characters of this indie game do not have special details like Sonic or another characters from Disney, are only anthro animals wearing clothes, if you put naked in a sexual moment, is like another furries and that´s all, but it will not mean is overgrowth or lugaru bunnies.
