Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
"Well, this is a new ship, but she's got the right name. Now you remember that, you hear? You treat her like a lady, and she'll always bring you home."
- Admiral Leonard McCoy, touring the Enterprise-D
The USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D was launched in 2363 under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Among the first of the mighty Galaxy-class starships, the Enterprise, like her predecessors, was designated the flagship of the Federation fleet and represented the very finest that Starfleet had to offer. An accomplished diplomat, explorer and tactician, Captain Picard commanded the Enterprise for the entirety of her service, encountering many new life forms and journeying farther into the unknown than any starship before.
A highly prestigious posting, young officers across the fleet competed for a chance to serve on the Enterprise. This meant that in most cases only the best and brightest served aboard her, and with good reason - the Enterprise's missions frequently took it well beyond the borders of known space, and over her service career the Enterprise made first contact with over 30 previously unknown species, most notably the Q Continuum, the Children of Tama, and the Borg.
The Enterprise played an instrumental and often vital part in the Federation's defence on several occasions, maintaining the peace along the Cardassian border, standing off with the Romulans along the Neutral Zone, safe-guarding the Federation-Klingon alliance and, most famously, ending the Borg threat to Earth after the disastrous Battle of Wolf 359.
In 2371 the Enterprise exposed a rogue scientist's plot to destroy the Veridian star, an act that would have destroyed the pre-industrial Veridian civilisation. Engaging Klingon mercenaries in orbit, the Enterprise took heavy damage but won the battle. Unfortunately, the Enterprise-D succumbed to her injuries soon after, although the great majority of the crew managed to evacuate before a core breach lit up the Veridian sky.
I almost thought those were Tholian Recluses in the distance.
This attention to small detail is what makes this mod so immersive.
I think there's a Starfleet regulation of this video having to be posted with every Galaxy-class screenshot:
