Sins of a Solar Empire is often described as a 4XRTS game, or a game that tried to merge the action and tactics packed gameplay of a Real time strategy game with the deep, complex, empire wide strategy of a 4X turn based game. It's up to debate whether Sins succeeded in this goal, but I think all can agree that of the 4Xs of "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate", Sins is much more focused on the exterminate than on the others. This mod seeks to give more depth to the other 3Xs of the game by adding additional game elements or refining the existing ones to reward players who give more strategic thought to the non-combat side of the game. Combat will still be the center point of the game, but players will find that the non-combat options available will be much more rewarding. Spying, exploring, sabotage, diplomacy, culture, and economic development have all been added or changed in innovative new ways. Regardless of what you think Sins is, this is the 4XRTS it should have been.

What you need to know about beta testing Enhanced 4X.

Posted by on

As many of you already know, I released a early version of Enhanced 4X for Rebellion late last night. Unfortunately it was a bit more rushed than I had hoped, so while playable it certainly has quite a few issues, from natural "growing pains" of things I overlooked when converting to Rebellion (I suspect there will be a few abilities that won't affect titans that really should) to oversights with new content.

Those of you willing to deal with those kind of things, please download the beta, and keep up with this thread, which will list all known bugs and even have fixed versions of the necessary files for download, so you can continue testing without too many major issues. If you find something not on that list, please make a post in the bugs forum to explain the issue. For everyone else, once I have a chance to play a few games and determine most of the issues have been resolved, I'll add a download for the official version of Enhanced 4X 1.4, which should be pretty much bug free.
