Damn... Seriously, I never was more fully satisfied with a deathclone than that beast you showed us here. Since the Advanced Units mod back in the days there were never really a drastical change on this particular thing. With this you finally changed one of the most annoying things when it comes to mods: Seeing amazing modeled and textured ships going down in not-so-epic deathclones or just some bigger explosions. The only thing you could add is some more space debris floating around after destruction, but that's just a suggestion. In the meantime I have to check my eyes, because they're hurting from the incredible awesomness and simultaneously the state of my mind, because I'm going crazy by this. It's a blast.
I thought about this when I created the deathclone but decided it'd be very annoying. Realistic yes, but it decreases playability. My stance on these things is that I'm all for more realism and will go to quite a length to create it, but when it directly clashes with how much fun the game is I will leave it out. Same story here. How annoying would it be to have to start microing your units away right when a capital is about to explode? Plus the AI wouldn't know to do this so they might just blow up half their fleet, which also is not fun to play against.
I fully agree with that. Is there maybe a possibility to give different damage categories for fighters and corvettes or just a slight damage amount for smaller ships or just fighters at all? There was something similar in the vanilla game when you retreat and your station blows up, the enemy fighters around that station get screwed up, too.
