Clive Barker's Undying ESRGAN Upscale Pack

Installation procedure for best visual experience

  1. Download and Install Texture Updater 128x128 to enable detail maps for textures
  2. Download and install Undying Subtitle Patch v2.1
  3. (Optional, but highly recommended) Install Undying Renewal mod. It had some gameplay improvements/enhancements, but you can use it just to fix some bugs and improve perfomance.
  4. (Optional) If you are not using Renewal, you can download widescreen patch
  5. Now you have two different options:
    1. Install Unreal DirectX11 renderer for this upscale pack to work
    2. (You need Renewal for this to work) Install Vulkan renderer with support for external textures from l0m for this upscale pack to work. Link is temporary until he upload latest version himself.
  6. Install Clive Barker's Undying ESRGAN Pack by unpacking the archive into the game folder.
  7. (Optional, if you are using Renewal) Install Undying ESRGAN Renewal compatibility upscale by unpacking the archive into the game/Textures folder. It will upscale specific HUD textures, added in Renewal

You could also use alternative upscale pack Clive Barker's Undying hidef by y2keeth. It should work with both renderers.

Renderers comparison

DX11 have normal and height maps which improve visual a lot, and also SSAO and reflections. But it stutters a lot and have issues with quality of lightning/illumination

Vulkan is much faster and illuminations/lightning is better. And I think you could force SSAO and reflections using Reshade

Compatibility

Mod is compatible with near anything Clive Barker's Undying related. It is fully compatible with Undying Renewal mod in the latest version.

Possible Bugs

Coronas misalignment with widescreen mod and DX11
If you are not using DX11 fix, you should disable coronas in System/System.ini file

Jaggy polygons, dancing/moving on camera angle change in DX11
This is because of tesselation in DX11, which works somewhat funny in this game. You could try to leave it on, but I didn't noticed any huge improvements. Try it for yourself. In case you want stable picture, disable it in System/System.ini file

Please, tell me how did you manage to extract all the textures from their *.utx and save the folder structure?
For example, Dragon Unpacker does not save folders.

There is no need to install Vulkan renderer separately as it's now part of the Undying Renewal mod.
