Yeah, it seems in this age that half of people will dislike anything new and the other half will like it. True, hopefully that will bridge the gap.
Yeah, ideally we will release it sooner then 5 years haha. Time flies, the OT is already 4 years old... Anyhow, I can say personally that it is far more comprehensive, immersive, and stable then the OT mod. So it will be worth the wait.

Yeah, most likely 3.9. We have to merge in a few more features that are specific to FotG, then that should allow us to resume faster progress. Might have to contact the current heads of OT mod, I can send you the links on HLP for you if you are interested!
Sure, here is a rundown: The base engine that both this mod (the OT mod) and FotG use is the SCP for FS2 (source code project for Freespace 2, for those of you who don't like acronyms). Currently the SCP is under major renovation and bug fixing, but unfortunately that means both the OT and FotG mod do not work with current versions of the SCP. Once the bug fixing phase is completed with the SCP, then work will resume on adjusting the FotG mod to take advantage of these new, and better code changes for the SCP. In other words, even if I had not moved to FotG, there would still be a temporary stay on progress until the SCP is stabilized. What we are working on for FotG is continuing though, but again it is mainly bug fixing and thus progress is not shown very frequently. There is also a feature that I am working on for FotG that hopefully will help make it worth the wait, too. Hope this clarifies things, and thank you for your message!
Hmm, my guess is that something with 3.8.0 broke something that the OT mod used...the same thing has happened with a few other custom mods on other OSes as well.
Actually Fate of the Galaxy is not dead, since I have been working on scripting for it almost everyday for over the past 8 months lol. This mod I passed to another modder since I moved to work on Fate of the Galaxy so I am not sure.

Likely because the OT mod hasn't been updated in a long time and the is not compatible with the new FSO builds.
I have transitioned to working fully with Fate of the Galaxy, which is a bit more extensive in it's goals and features. Here is the website if you are curious : )
I am not sure what TNathan has in mind, but the other Star Wars mod I have now shifted on working on, Fate of the Galaxy, will be released as a stand alone version.

Which mission did you try and start? Also, I think the current OT mod only uses an earlier FSO version.
Thanks! Well in theory it is possible, but you would have to do a lot of table editing. So if you wanted to do that I would say go for it!, but we would not be able to provide support.
Yes, these are annoying bugs I agree. Most of the missions are very simple, as honestly we never reached the goals of having detailed and long missions. We mainly released to so others could make their own missions.
I still want to help make missions, but sadly most days there just isn't enough hours in the day.
