For some reason the file verification data file for the patch (quicksfv.md5) ended up in the mod's root instead of the verify folder.
Hence the file verification was done from the prior data file end thus returned errors.
The installed files are all in the correct places, so no need to redo the patch once the new one is issued.

That is quite a mess. Took me a few hours and dozens of error fixes to finally narrow down the issue to faulty files in the text directory (event_titles and event_strings). Underneath the details of my fixes:

- creates Steam compatible desktop shortcut
- fixes fatal error in historic_events
- fixes numerous format issues in campaign_script
- fixes trait issues in campaign_script
- fixes generic text still showing in Chinese
- disables intro movies
- provides original fonts
- corrects unit issues in Zealandia custom battle
- fixes numerous issues in export_descr_ancillaries
- fixes numerous issues in export_character_traits and export_vnvs
- replaces event_titles and event_strings
- uses quotes from Rise of three Kingdoms (M2TW Moddb.com)

Managed to find the error(s). Have now ported the mod to kingdoms, made it steam compatible and added patch 2.1 - busy uploading at a third party.

That's my trade mark error message instead of the generic one. You will need to have a closer at the log, preferably in trace mode.

Thanks for using my Bare Geomod setup as base for your mod

The crash might be the 'BecomesFactionLeader' bug - it happens when the FL and FH are the last named characters and get wiped out in the same battle, usually a siege battle.
Only way around that is to delete the trigger section of the EDCT file, play past the crash and then restore the full EDCT again.

EDCT = export_descr_character_traits

It's the Zone of Recruitment (ZoR) principle I presume - you simply can't recruit faction specific units outside their original regions. It will have to be generic units, mercenaries or reinforcement by units recruited in original regions

It's rather anti lore to recruit Gondor units inside Mordor, wouldn't you think?

Simply don't use the folder rename method for steam and you can play as many mods at the same time as your hard drive can hold. For that either use the recent Third Age repack ( Twcenter.net ) or use this Steam 'Fix': Twcenter.net

Why not publish it on TWCenter as well?

Tip: next time compress the 'India' directory instead of it's content - makes installing so much easier.
And update your 'executable' file (and CFG file) to make it steam compatible: those used are fairly old, the latest version can be found in my Bare Geoomd set up: Twcenter.net

BAT file editing:

1. Open the BAT file with Notepad by right clicking the file and choosing 'edit'
2. Replace "medieval2.exe" with "kingdoms.exe"
3. Save
4. Start game

If you actually tried to follow my steps you could save yourself the questions, but then you think it's called mini maps when the correct term is mipmaps:

Step 2 - open without MIPMAPS (I use GIMP)

Step 4 once more in long hand - when saving in DDS format a dialogue window (called a 'pop up' in derivative language) will open in GIMP where right at the top of it the compression option with a drop down list appears. And one of the options is BC3\DTX5
And just a bit down is the 'Mipmaps option with it's own drop down list.

It should be the same process regardless which editor you use, being a miser I use the freeware GIMP.

Tip: do follow instructions at least once - it will eliminate about 90% of questions you may have.

Step 3 (edit)
use 'image\scale image' to reduce the highest dimension number to the next lower number:
2048
1024
512
256
the other number will automatically adjust

step 4 (save)
use 'file\overwrite to (filename)'
in dialogue use 'compression: BC3\DTX5'
and use 'Mipmaps: generate mipmaps'
Those settings should remain preset during a session, making the process less tedious with the following pictures

There simply is no way that this happens if TESTW is present in the medieval ii total war\mods\the _elder_scrolls directory and the BAT file of my starter is in there.

If vanilla gets started then you have extracted into the wrong directory. To confirm that you need to comply with my request earlier to copy the path here.

Not going to ask again, I did start the request with 'last try'.

While I am thinking that this was the problem all along and that it confirms that you do NOT follow instructions, I just regret that this board does not allow to post picture, I got a cool 'I told you so' meme.

The setting in descr_sm_factions (has_famliy_tree, england faction) is the same as for the slave faction - which is meant for any faction that hasn't got a special_faction entry (like slave and pope). It isn't suitable for the player, it's AI only, given it's implications, starting with no tree at all.
If the goal was to have an emperor without tree then the 'teutonic' entry instead of 'no' will be the entry of choice.

Do note that this change is not save game compatible.
