Already played the new DIPRIP, so I guess that counts then :P
I don't think it is a matter of which you play first - I hope everyone gives all of these mods a shot, they deserve it for the years of effort they have devoted to their craft.
Steam has been broken for me for quite a long time, so I guess I wouldn't pick any for that reason. But I picked Synergy because that's the first one I WOULD play if steam were still working for me.

I got that 2 month ago and then i looked in to my folder because nothing for wrong with the connection.
Then i found a virus/another program had paste alot of the things in there and had 1 strange thing on (ctrl-alt-del) process-tab, after that i deleted all except my personal folder and reinstalled steam, But keep in mind to save ur server list as well.
then everything was fine.
I got steam since the start and it have never been "broken" like i had 2 month ago so i think it was a one-time-only thing.

I'm personally gonna play _Not my mod_ first. Honestly I've missed 2 titles of the 5 only because I've spent all my time working, modding, or raising my kids. But will definitely be trying them all out this weekend.
No but seriously, talked to some of the other developers and i'm very very excited to try out their mods once released on steam.

I played Synergy in one of its first versions
(months(years?!) ago) with a friend of mine,
so I voted for it, but after the steam-delivery
I played Insurgency first :D
Synergy - my friend is afraid of headrabs (hah :O) and i need to help him complete Episode Two :D

Where's the, "I don't have steam" option?
On option is missing: none. I don't like zombie stuff so ZP:S falls flat. I didn't like Insurgency ( slow and boring... for my taste that is ) at all so it's also a no-pick. AoC is unfortunately not my taste ( I dislike medieval stuff ) so it's also not a pick. Synergy and D.I.P.R.I.P. doesn't ring a bell. No idea what awaits one there. Maybe after taking a snoop. But most important:
Never getting mods through steam!

will try forest AoC because I play the rest (not d.i.p.r.i.p, will be later) and not synergy because i like follow freeman more and Synergy lag for me even on the lowest settings...
I would say, ALMOST all mods are worth a try.
I loves the zombie goodness. I have most of these mods, so no harm playing them all.

If I wanted a Zombie mod, I'd go on Gmod, not go and download a crapload of things I've already gained via servers, surprisingly it has gained 30% of votes 0_0'
Why are you surprised? ZPS is better than any Gmod or CSS plugin, we have a lot more to offer gameplay wise and content wise, we are also the original. So, yeah gogogo ZPS!

You NEED Steam to play HL2 Mods, there is no other way.

yeah.... ZPS isnt my tast theres no satisfaction in it at all.... I think Insurgency is better than CSS. I even choose playing it over COD4. That mod is incredible, kudos to Insurgency

Been following Insurgency and Synergy for quite some time so probably one of those I'd guess
I've been playing a bit of AoC and loving it. nothing beats a nice swing of the sword decapitation
I'll eventually play them all, but I've been playing Insurgency the most recently. I'll need to check out DIPRIP sometime; I loved Twisted Metal.

hahaha i tried ZPS before the steam release and my computer crashed i've learned from that, never play ZPS it sucks the first mod i played was synergy on steam but turned out to be a total let-down it said i needed hl2 even though i had it installed currently playing AoC and loving every minute of it

I can't explain the crash, but a better understanding of hardware and software may have benefited you then. You should really try to play the mod before you judge it :)
I do agree that AoC is awesome. I played AoC first and have played it daily since.
benguy, in Synergy in the main meny there's a button "games" or smth. Press it and turn hl2 ON. Restart game (quit and run again) - and here you are.
Downloaded all of them except Insurgency (just don't like modern realistic combat). First one I played was Zombie Panic - great thing. Also liked Synergy and AoC.
