lol :P
Im out of school with a job not related to the industry at all...oh well there go all my hopes and dreams lol
Attending DADIU, the national Danish gaming education. It consists of several universities and arts schools working together. All students specialize at their own school and then participate twice in a one month production, usually in groups of 10-12 people. Right now we are only eight in my group though.
I have finished a degree in games design. I'm now working in a small company as a Concept artist, whilst studing an MA in Animation for games.
I have mixed feelings about courses. On one hand if you are talented and dedicated, you can probably learn everything you need to know via tutorials on the net, books etc etc. I hear a lot of industry people are a bit unsure about games courses in particular. It's certainly not necessary to have a qualification on games, to get a job in the game industry, however I think it's all down to personal preference and what you feel you are capable of. I found a games course really fun though and it's a nice transition before going into full on work :)
Was doing a course if Visual Communication, Quit because my lecturer's were ******** to me and the work was just too annoying. Ended up with the job I wanted anyway. Now working as QA in the Games Industry :D.
I hope to, if I can get my 5 Cs this year in GCSE (I doubt I will) I'm going to go on to further study Media and some other Btec Media course (I forgot the name) in 6th form, as long as I get 2 A Levels in 6th Form I will be going on to do a course in Game Design in Norwich.
I study gamedesign (conceptial and game art)
I'm studying linguistics, philosophy, and history, but i want to get into the industry anyway
Completed school and now working full time on moddb.com so I guess you could say i'm working in the industry!
Still learning in a few fields, no degrees yet though. Going to start earning a business degree soon enough, then onto the field of game design!
Working on a BA in Web Design, of course I almost regret spending nearly 60k on my education when I haven't learned much since I already know most the **** they are teaching me. >.>
Hehe, finished school ages ago. I'm working now on my second academic degree but it has nothing to do with games industry. Modding is just a hobby of mine but currently I'm visiting a special lesson of making computer games at my university. Just for fun. ;)
I are programmerman.
I'm currently in school majoring in Game Arts & Design. Will be taking intership for blizzard in the summer and valve in the winter.
Showoff. :-p
the choices in the last few polls have been seemingly narrow.
I'm currently in my last year at school. The program says Digital Games but it's mostly design theory though. Been working hard in a few game projects the past year and self taught myself in game animations. Planning to get out in the industry after the summer.
Last year of school -> College nexT! :D Computer Games Developement for me :D hehe.. its gonna be great and hopefully easy... Love the UNREAL ENGINE! Later Guys!
Completed languages uni degree and now working in the industry (QA testing, not localisation/translation)
I have applied for the school, after that i will be a 3d designer ^^
Heh, the purpose of these polls is becoming awfully transparent :P
Lol.
Pick ME! :o
shouldn't there have been an option for "I'm attending school for a other" option???
Well, I never find some work like that in Argentina... but if I find some work, I finish the school and start to work. Maybe is a future plan
Got a bachelor's degree at a 2.5 yr 3d school that was mostly film related, did about 6-8 months of mod work in order to learn the specifics of game work and got a job as an environment artist on the strength of the mod work in my portfolio. I'm currently working on a PS3 title as an environment artist at Idol Minds as well as doing mod work on the side.
I'm in my last year of school and then off to carlow IT to do a 4 year degree in games design... if i get the points that is. Anyone from Ireland knows what im talkin about, rite lad? :P
I said yes. That's not quite accurate, but it's close enough
I play games for entertainment; not because I turn it in to a lifestyle.
I'd like to learn 3D modeling, texturing, etc. for advertisement, not games. :) I'm more interested in getting a job in filming and other movie fields.
I am indeed at university studying a games course. It is great fun. And I rather hope to stay on for on extra year to get the full Games design Degree.
I wrote more in my profile, go have a look if you want. I am too mazy to repeat myself.
I attened a university course realated to video games. I would say you dont need the degree to get your self a job in the industry as you can learn the skills from the web, books etc like Bunnyjen said. But i went on the course for the experience it would give me and also to get my backside in gear to actually go for it insted of lying around telling myself i couldnt do it and staying in a job where i would only go so far and still hate myself for not chasing my dream :). So far around 85-90% of my learnt skills have not come from the course but other sources like books and web tutorials.
I am going into Piano and Vocal performance, Music tech and Composition. Ill prolly be an in house composer for a film or game company =D
Diplomacy or Law enforcement for me, I'm ways off.
Studying digital art at college (well... making a portfolio in order to get into the proper course then onto university if all goes well)
Studying media at NTI in Gothenburg ( sweden ). We learn to utilize lots of programs. We learn about todays situation within media and such. It helps a lot! In the future i will probably be heading for a IT university to study 3D design&art
I was enrolled in a one year course that covered some major aspects in a crash-course time-frame. It was going to be great for work as well (I work in the building industry).
Relationship problems, Money, and Time: Screws with your plans.
I'm here because I'm a cheap bastiage and like free games! ;)
Hear hear!
Finishing the fourth year of a MEng Computing; I did a 6 month stint at EAUK, so I suppose you could say I worked in industry. =P
