Let's face it, it's only a matter of time until almost every online game has annoying flashing, buzzing pop-ups that you can't get rid of.

Oh yes, you can get rid of ads by Symantec Norton 360. It stops all ads but it sometimes stops important content. :D
I hate ads, althrough they are important for websites' funds.

This is yet another example of corporate America taking over everything. (Yes I know i might sound like a hippie but i'm not ) But the fact is, that, yes, America is desensitized to the fact that we are, in a sense, being taken over. Our minds are being filled with mindless advertising that is telling us - Use this, not that, because brand 1 doesn't make you suck. Shouldn't we have our own minds and make our own choices without "Big Brother" (not the show, retard) telling us what to do? I'm glad I can voice my opinion on this. Oh by the way, remember this word - Antidisestablishmentarianism!

I wouldn't mind "natural" ads that lent to the sense of immersion, but in this instance they are modifying a product that users have already purchased! In other words, end-users didn't get to factor in whether or not they wanted to be bombarded with advertising when they first purchased the game.

It would be like purchasing a Ford car, and a year later Ford coming along and repainting it with Nascar-level logos w/out the owner's consent!

i dont like the idea as after the game is purchased all that valve does is have steam, they dont pay for game servers or maintenace on them, so ingame i feel shouldnt be placed. however on the loading screen, like in 1.6 where is says 'valve content server' thingy, that would be a perfect place for them, people will see them, it has no negative effect on the game, and doesnt take away from ingame visual appeal.

If you are a business that has a product that is used by the 18-35 male demographic you would be an IDIOT *not* to advertise in games, especially online games. Corporate america, just like almost every one of us wants to make money and be successful. I don't blame them for wanting ads in games, I expect them to make business decisions like that. And, as a gamer, I'm not going run out and buy something unless I really see merit in the product itself. I don't drink Sprite because of the ads, I actually like the taste of cold Sprite.

And stop it with the Big Brother comparisons. You are getting ridiculous, ads don't tell you what to do unless you really are a *******. I never bought something because an ad said I should. When you go to the supermarket, you ARE making your own choices. Ads just promote the product, show why the product would be a good buy. Unless you're a zombie, the choice is still in your hands. F-ing grow up already, don't whine about how you don't have choices or that you're forced to believe something.

Well, if they put the ads in games, they should make them cheaper! They put ads on the radio so you dont have to pay for it! Put ads on the game? Then why should we have to pay so much?!

But what do you mean when you say, ads that look natural. I mean, i do not want ad's for pepsi cola popping up in the middle of the screen and ruining my aim. but if it's like an in game billboard that happens to match what you are playing, then there's no problem with it by me

theres a huge difference between having ads in a game, and putting them in. bf2142 they tell u about it with that lil slip, steam will update source automatically.

Why the knee-jerk reactions? Honestly, how will a Coca-Cola billboard in CS_Havana lower your enjoyment of the game? If it were a game that relied heavily on atmosphere and immersion like Oblivion, I might mind. But face it: CS is about shooting people. The ads aren't going to detract from the fun.

If it's a way for them to get more money, great. I personally am happy to see the game industry expand into the frontiers of advertising; it means great things for developers.

Driving games have had ads for a long time. Things like Need for Speed I've seen in-game advertising, and its never really affected me. That being said its a bit different being in an FPS, but all the same I don't think its that big of an issue provided its not a distraction to gameplay.
I agree with San-J. CS isn't about atmosphere; its about killing people. Thats the gameplay and ads won't affect that. I'll have a problem with advertising once we get the Ford Titan in Battlefield 2142, or de_dust brought to you be Pepsi

If the ads are correct for the period, I see no reason why not. Sports games might as well have real ad campaigns in them, as it improves realism.

You guys are being pussies about this anyway. So what if the texture on the soda machine or poster in map X changes from something non-existant to a real company logo. ****, maybe they'll even advertise Girls Gone Wild for you to jack off to while you play!
