Today marks the end of my Playstation 2's life. It wasn't necessarily a long life, but it was a full life. I believe it was a self-induced death, however. Let me start at the beginning.
I got a Playstation 2 (fat) right after they launched for christmas. I was ecstatic. I played the crap out of Gran Turismo 3. I played my fair share of Red Faction, Half-Life, Silent Hill, Tony Hawk, Final Fantasy, and Zone of the Enders. I loved my PS2, but then my brother began to play it. He was using it more than I was, so my dad gave it to him and gave me some money to complement my birthday money to buy a new slim. I bought my new slim, along with three games and a multitap for some intense four player Black Hawk Down. It got it's fair share of use as well. But, then my brother had been grounded from the PS2 for being an ass. So I borrowed the power cable for my friend's Dreamcast. Then, my dad eventually caved and let him start playing video games again. We didn't have the power cable, so he went out and bought a DS.
Then, I got a Playstation 3. It was my new favorite thing to play. I played so much Call of Duty 4 that I could play a round of Free for All in my head. I raped at it. My PS2 sat lonely, it's red light always waiting for a playful poke from my finger to start up a round of Guitar Hero. It happened, but it was few and far between. So I let my little brother borrow it to play Burnout. He was overjoyed. He played it more than I used to play my PS2 fat. So things went on. I moved back to PC gaming, and my PS3 became idle. I used it occasionally for some intense Killzone, but that didn't happen that often, to be honest.
I got the urge to play Guitar Hero again. So I brought the PS2 downstairs, popped in the boot disc and popped in Guitar Hero Custom. But, the brrrRRRRRRrrrr didn't bode well. I pressed the blue button again (the X button on the guitar hero controller) and it didn't spin. I figured it just misread the disc and needed rebooted to allow me to start my copy again. But... I put in the boot disc and hit the reset button and it didn't spin. I unplugged it and tried it again and it didn't start... again. I knew what had happened. I knew what had happened before I restarted it, but I didn't want to admit it. I am still mourning the loss of my faithful companion and will be for quite some time. It was a good console. It may not have lived the longest life, as I said above, but it was a full life. It got it's fair share of play and will always be remembered.
