UPDATE: Winners contacted!
Thanks to everyone who tweeted their love of mods. It was great to see, and we look forward to running the event again in 2017. We have just begun sending an email which looks like this to people who followed the rules below and participated in this years event. 70% of people who participated got a key so check your mailbox and with a bit of luck you are a winner. Oh and the games were picked at random, sorry we cannot swap or switch them.
We ******* love mods! Who doesn't, they make PC the master race and all games better. Last year we kicked off this event after the paid modding saga left many worried about where the industry is heading. And while the dust has settled and things have returned to normal, modders dedicate a lot of time to their craft while asking for little in return.
Introducing #modlove2016
With more games supporting modding today than ever before we need to encourage game developers to continue working on keeping their platforms open and mod friendly. We also need to let mod developers know their effort is enjoyed and appreciated by many. It's the least we can do, which is why for this week only you may have noticed every mod on the site has a "love bar" shown on their profile, which looks a little like this:
Get involved
Just click any of the handy links provided, then post a message with a link to the mods profile to help raise awareness and appreciation for your favorite mods. Or follow these steps:
- It doesn't matter where your favorite mod is hosted be it on Run Shoot Think Live, GameBanana, Curse, Workshop, Nexus or Mod DB.
- Copy its URL then write a post explaining why you like that mod (you could write this post on your blog, in a forum, a tweet or facebook) the more we share the better.
- Tell us about your post by linking to it in the comments here.
- At the end of the week we shall be picking a few lucky members who left a comment following these rules at random, and giving them a key to one of the games listed below as thanks for helping us celebrate mods!
Game giveaway
We have partnered up with some friends of ModDB (want in?), who have always been mod-friendly and deserve our love, and will be giving them away to participants. We've got a handful of keys for the games listed below - just follow the steps above to be eligible to win!
Don't miss this chance to promote the mods you love and win awesome mod-friendly games! Time is limited...

Idk what the modding community would be like without you Moddb.

I hope I win, there hasn't been a day that this mod hasn't been played by me since it came out.
You know, I couldn't keep it to just one mod...I decided to link to Moddb itself.
"Making mods can make careers. The revolutionary act of making games mod-able has ensured a steady flow of talent in the games industry and was a wise move. Sites like Moddb serve such a wonderful purpose in bringing the modding community together and fostering talent in a concentrated arena - which insofar has been paramount to the careers of many aspiring developers. The mod you play and support today, could snowball into the next AAA franchise. So avail yourself of the free content while you can - and appreciate these labors of love."
Well said!
I believe you've just captured the essence and purpose of ModDB in just one, beautifully said, paragraph. I couldn't agree more. Keep up the awesome work (both ModDB staff and members) !
While I do like what you wrote... I still want a Game key :D
Forgive me moddb staff. MODS4LIFE

There's are a lot of mods here on the website, but this is my favorite right now.
Wanted to write more but twitter character limit :( Truly appreciate devs working tirelessly for mods that give us users high quality content, like the many troop types from the Marines to Chasseurs A Pied and that is just the French troops in the mod I linked to, and also brand new features to make each mod different and the experience unique. Looking forward to the mod in 1-2 week time. They have my utmost respect.
Keen for Fast Detect!
I personally love this moddb
Pleased that you do :)
Without this site and others, creative works coundn't see its light. Thanks for everything, Moddb. There's alot of mods that have potential, and with moddb, mods can eventually become works of...no one can ever thought. Like turning into a game or a well known project.

Revived my 2008 twitter account just for this, I would have written more if it wasn't for Twitter's character limit.
Twitter.com There we go! Wish me luck guys! :D
you've got a great chance, last year I think 50% of people entering won a game :)
That's good to hear :D
Nice!
I've check my email then I got a key but It was already been activated or It is just a mistake ? Please fix this. Thank You!
Will the ModDB subreddit ever be resurrected? it seems like a great opportunity to share and promote mods but it's only got a few posts and subscribers.
Half-Rats: A Fever Dream and Parasomnia is one of the best mods out there. The developer worked with great effort to make Half-Rat's dream come true, in Half-Life. I could have written more, but its because of twitter's tweet limits.
Hope i win!

Let's hope more people will post their opinions in the thread. :)

Sands of Faith, a Mount & Blade: Warband mod that I've recently downloaded, is a very good example of what I would call as a great mod. The game features many historical characters who played significant roles during the Crusades, such as Saladin, King Baldwin IV, etc.
The mod contains many high quality textures for helmets, armors, horses, etc. Especially for the lances, which I greatly love with the flag animations they have based on the factions they belong to.
Lastly, I would like to say a great job for the creator of the mod, for both updating the mod often, and releasing the Low End PC and Mac Editions of the mod. This definitely shows you how the creator really cares for his mod's fans who own Macs, or may not currently be able to afford Middle to High end PCs.
Sorry for the long comment (if you consider this one to be long), and thank you for your time in reading this. :)

GL to everybody with the contest.

Great mod
Why I love the Quake Epsilon mod!
#We_love_mods
I know this mod has been already awarded mod of the year 2015. but it would be unfair to not showcase it at least once during #modlove2016. the devs from EPICSTALKER didn't stop working they kept going even with all the things going on in eastern europe or anywhere else (the sgm team dissolved due to the ukrainian civil war and the gunslinger team had the same problems).
Even with all this they kept going, look at the poor SGM 3.0 it was stopped due to internal issues, then other modders rescued the unfinished mod and continued the developpement, took it out of the shadows. Now we can only wait till they are finished giving a last breath to the mod.
(should be done in the course of the year)
Moddb.com
this is one of the many mods made for stalker COP, CS or SHoC (won't talk about SHoC or CS cause i didn't look deep into them)
but they are plenty more hopes for great mods, even ambitious one's like ray of hope trying to make COP a coop adventure (would be awesome)
misery the mod for the most hardened players
or even Radium wich will maybe make a knew game inside of COP
(knew story,complete overhaul)
isn't it great to see all these amazing concepts ? but i'm not here to showcase every single one of the great mods we can see on Stalker(even if i would like)
i'm here for CoC, the mod that said he is one of the best, the mod that said he won't die yet that he'll keep on fighting to give more astounding content to players of an awesome series. and if the mod can't do it, the addons will, they'll keep making the mod and the game better. Delivering an amazing expierience.
(RIP old stalker dev team)
:P
Posted a post on Facebook about a mod I'm really looking forward to and I just can't tell how hyped I am for it. #ModLove2016

Facebook.com love ModDB best thing that ever happened to gaming
This mod, was something that I remember very well. It's old but it deserves it.

Since I knew about ModDB in the "early" times 2003-04, it became my heaven. Half-Life made me love mods, and today I can't live without them in any game.
This is my humble tribute to one of them that didn't capture too much attention since it's inception, but it really deserve it, beign it's development resilience be one of it's best attributes.
I've also (wrongly) posted this in the previous Mod Appreciation Week post (2015), so I re-post it here:

The very best of luck to everyone and many thanks to ModDB for bringing us all together, so we can meet each other, make friends and create beautiful projects ;) .
