Mod DB now has over 320,000 registered members and each day we reach over 80,000 people, some gamers, some professional developers and others working towards a job in the games industry. Despite the mass of talent on our site, there has always been a big gap in our offering and that is connecting companies with new employees and mod and indie teams with volunteers looking for experience. Countless times game companies have approached us looking for individuals skilled with the big engines (ie. Source, UE, Cryengine and SAGE) and they do so because YOU have the knowledge and experience they seek.
Today marks one of the biggest steps forward for Mod DB in our history, today we hope to begin bridging the gap between commercial game companies and indie / mod teams, by offering a number of new features:
- Everyone can post job ads to our jobs board
- Every ad runs for 30 days from the date they are authorized
- Commerical ads cost $200 and include the companies logo and exposure on the Mod DB homepage to help them (and you) find the perfect match
- Indie / mod ads are free, however you can make an optional donation for extra exposure and to know you are supporting the Mod DB
We hope we can provide everyone a place to promote jobs and to find the job they are looking for from companies right through to the new teams. The job board is high tech, with live searching and tons of other features - so we highly encourage you to give it a shot. Read on for more information about how we can help you, hire the best.
Fantastic, thanks moddb
thank you, finally.
Yes! Thank you!
This way there is no need for "help wanted" news posts, and forum threads which everyone misses. Hopefully helps out many teams (and companies)
Sweet. Will sure be helpful!
@Intense!: they prolly still gonna be made xD
hopefully it doesnt end up like the last version: clutterd with posts of dead mods + no one looked at them :/
fresh start for an old function :3
well this is precisely why job ads are only posted for "30 days".
so they dont just pile up and you dont know what is active and what isn't. it is either new or it is old.
ooooh hadnt seen it :p should read more carefully next time
is there allso a function to extend it?
like in the last 3 days or so the poster can press a extend button and when that is authorized the add stays for a aditional 30 days?
could be usefull since:
a) long term adds dont have to be rewritten each time
b) pressing the button shows that you are at least a bit active :p
Awesome news guys!
Should be very helpful.
FINALLY! That's just awesome :D
Great, but somehow the "Jobs!" button doesn't fit into the main menu. It starts in a new line and breaks the page layout somehow.
Ok, now it seems to fit perfect. Maybe you changed something while I was writing. XD
Was asking myself when this is gonna come. This page simply begs for a feature like that. Companys need a good platform to reach capable personnal
YES! I've had many a rant about bringing people together in more of a help based community! I see this doing wonderful things. Good job all involved.
Now this is a great feature
Once the ad expires, can you post another on immidiately?
you can post as many ads as you want. you don't need to post 1 at a time. they will all expire after 30 days and they must all be for different positions.
It messed up my page quite a bit, but its nice none-the-less.
You will have to shift-refresh. I presume you are talking about the top menu? I have updated the CSS just need to make sure you are running the latest version
Maybe some statistics about how many people have viewed your ad would be nice, even if it was only viewable to the poster.
Also, when it goes to the paypal screen after posting an indie/mod ad, I was a bit confused about whether or not the ad had been sent for authorization. Maybe another button that says something like "continue" that's not in bold would be nice. I know you're not trying to corner folks in to donating, but that's the feeling I got when there was no other option to click.
Once again, though... GREAT feature! Thanks for bridging the gap between everything, and at such an amazingly low price. Any commercial developer that's familiar with this site should poop their pants with joy!
I agree with all points, will make the changes once I return from GDC in a week as I don't expect to have much free time in the intrim.
Oh and you are correct, we don't expect anyone to donate - it is just an option if you feel that way inclined.
As for the price for commerical companies, well that is great value. For 200$ they get an advertisement for 30 days which will be shown to thousands of developers, they show that they care and follow / endorse modders. Plus instead of paying more at some "generic" jobs site, they are reaching right into a hotbed of talent. More value less crap - glad you agree!
Good to see that this very important feature is finally back and better than ever!
This is very nice indeed.
THANK YOU! :)
Huzzah! Great job!
Does your post go higher up the list if you give a larger donation? Also, when (for example) three people donate the same amount, who gets the top spot? The most recent post?
The larger the donation the higher you "sit". It is ordered by donation and then date. Companies who pay the $200 fee get logo shown too, and a 3 line job listing. I believe it works well, but will see how the board is used.
The whole '$200' thing is kinda weird, because i've seen professional companies posting paid jobs for free on professional artists message boards. What about GPL projects? They fall into 'commercial' territory due to the freedom nature of the GPL license.
Nice work. Does look a little odd with all of the indie/mod jobs being "anywhere"...better to just not specify a location, surely?
Well anywhere means it is an online poosition which you can work at from "anywhere"
Happy to hear suggestions?
Good luck.
Perfect!
YAY!!! Thanks for adding this feature
This'll come in handy :p
I like this. Thumbs up :)
Awesome!
Sounds very helpful... is a great feature
Great news. Thanks for this feature, I am pretty sure that many-many people will find it useful. :)
Gonna do best i can to support ModDB as soon as i can
