On nebulae:
InfinityAdmin has finished the implementation of the planetary nebulae and has also spent a bit of time to optimize performance for the cloud point generation and operations, like lighting.
On HDRI (high dynamic range):
InfinityAdmin also started to write the render pipeline for HDRI. Nothing special to say. Lots of render to texture, many typos / bugs fixed, a few more subtle bugs fixed, overall it's going smoothly.
We still have to improve the bloom quality ( better blurring ), and have to make exposure a function of the image brightness.
On cities:
We started working on the city generator. The buildings are procedurally spawned into the city and are a combination of different building parts. Stannum made two buildings, with are made of many sections each. We are not sure of the number of combinations, but it's pretty safe to say that it's in the order of thousands, maybe more. Now, two buildings only aren't enough to make varied cities, but at least all the buildings are "unique" and have subtle, but different details.
The next screenshot shows a 'work-in-progress' city in a giant dome with HDR effects:
Art department:
Koshime has uploaded a lot of concept art on the Infinity profile on moddb, be sure to check out our media section!
Also take a look at fleet comparison image with all the ships modeled so far.
I'm with Kat! Keep up the great work! I would gladly lay down cash for something this high-quality.
Don't listen to the leaches who say "give it to me for free!" They simply don't know the amount of work that goes into making something this professional.
Bottom line is: Free or Retail, Mod or Game, it doesn't matter. This is great stuff and will be a great experience. Granted, I can defeinately see this going retail, but, tbh it really doesn't matter, if it's as great as it seems, it will go far.
HAVE FUN that's what counts!
What can I say? Great work.
OMG thats awsome!
That city looks awsome :) supreme work lads!
nebulaes, real god work!
The more I see of this, the more excited I am. This is shaping up to be something truly special.
Im starting to think this is going to be the best thing on moddb, keep it up
Wow you guys work so fast... it's insane! but please do keep up the good work. :D
Good stuff guys. Going really well.
I'd pay 60 bucks for this! DON'T RELEASE IT FOR FREE THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE RETAIL QUALITY BY THE TIME IT'S DONE!!! All your hard work should be rewarded!
This game is going to be the roxzorz and i agree with _kat_
I am so impressed with everything i see in this game.
Now this is what we like to see! Great work
I'd pay retail for it..but not monthly, i'd pay 70$for it..but not monthly, i'd wait in line for hours...but not pay monthly.
Get the hint?
Sell it if you want, but no monthly costs, make it even 100$for all i care, just, no monthly costs, please...
Looks great!
so is this going to be an RTS or a flight simulator. Cause you ahve enough content to go either way.
Space simultator. The works.
Yeah same for me, I dont like monthly fee. ;)
Unless the monthly fee is going to be like 1 or 2 dollars, then I would pay monthly fee.
I like just a one price payment.. such as $50 or $60.. I hate monthly fees :/
He was talking about an "alternative buisness model" at some point. Like free-to-play but pay-to-get extended stuff. I think that's the best idea, because then the player base will be HUGE. Freebie players could get basic ships and exploring. Paying players could get acess to higher stuff like organization-building, warships, nationbulding, terraforming... The mass of freebie players would even make a great base of manpower for organizations and nations. :D
I can't stand monthly fees. You pay for the game, you already pay monthly for your internet service, why spend more money every month for an online experience?
Awesome stuff! That's a lot of stunning concept art there.
You need to realize that the developer himself has to pay monthly for the server and bandwidth, who are only rented from a bigger company.
The calculation is easy, if the developer's monthly costs are higher than the developer's monthly income, the game shuts down. That's why monthly fees are needed in general.
Many players claim they're ready to pay a large upfront fee ( 50$-100$ ) rather than having a free download + monthly fee. I'm not too hot with this idea because:
- if the player doesn't like the game after a couple hours, he will have wasted his money. Are you really ready to risk that ?
- if the player plays for more than a few months regularly, he's a financial loss for the developer ( and remember the golden rule: costs > income -> shutdown ).
- business harder to manage for the developer, because money is only gained once ( upfront fee ), while money goes away regularly ( server costs ). How can you evaluate what your financial situation will be in a few months ? -> must rely on guessing. On the other hand, monthly fees can be directly related to the monthly costs and you immediately know what your financial situation is.
That being said, we are still undecided on this issue. Just realize that it's even more delicate for a small developer to discard proven methods such as monthly fees, even if they're not popular.
On the spot, FB ;)
