Nazis. Dinosaurs. Someone has finally put them together in a First Person Shooter.

Posted by c_b_fofep on Nov 12th, 2009

As part of a general announcement to the gaming community of Dino D-Day, a First Person Shooter we hope to release on Steam in 2010, we've made an HL2 mod version of the game available on ModDB. We invite community feedback which will be invaluable as we continue to develop the commercial release of the game!

We're making this mod available to the community to generate excitement around the game of course, but also to open the development process up to the mod/gamer community. By way of introduction, let me first tell you all that this is our first foray into this type of video game development. I myself moved to Los Angeles seven years ago to be a filmmaker. After producing some documentary television series I got hooked up with Valve and suddenly found myself thrust into the world of video game development.

Transforming oneself from a television producer into a game designer is no easy task and I give a lot of credit to the modding community for helping the Dino D-Day team (and especially me) make the jump. I didn't have an ounce of experience in modding or game design before taking on this project, yet with tutorials, tutorials, and general modding community support I'm now a semi-competant game programmer and designer.

The mod is basically a "prototype" for the full game. In it we endeavored to go through the process of building and laying out levels, coding some basic weapons and AI, inserting custom models and animations, and giving a basic sense of story. The full game will of course be longer and more ambitious but this should give you a general feel of what we're going for.

Hopefully making this mod available to the community and opening up the development process is a way for the Dino D-Day team to give back. We invite your open and honest criticism. We'll make regular reports on our progress and hopefully make you all feel a part of the development process.

I look forward to your input. Until then, go kill some Nazi dinosaurs!

I wish there were co-op too! But there ain't...we'll see how far my coding skills progress as we continue work on the game. Needless to say, co-op Nazi dinosaur killing would be the bee's knees...

You should definitely try to incorporate some co-op, that would be awesome. Im sure that someone who knows the coding would want to join ur team cause its an awesome mod

It would be steller if there was coop. Rad even. Should definitely implement such a feature, for if I am to run like the dickens and/or engage in fisticuffs with these Nazi Dinosaurs, I'd love to bring a buddy 'ol pal with me.

This is based on a real story, right? ;)

Melee a T-Rex..hmm. Something seems...wrong about that. I think Dinosaurs are fun to see in games (let alone to battle them) and I'm looking forward to giving this a spin.

Gerrold Nov 13 2009 says:

is it strictly single player or are you planning on adding co-op/dm maybe
i don't know about you but i LOVE co-op its like 10x funner to run around with a friend shooting dino's in the face then it is by yourself

jesterspawn Nov 13 2009 replied:

There will be some multiplayer modes in the full release, although co-op is currently not one of them. But who knows what mysteries the future holds...
