Firstly, lets be honest: The DIE-wing doesn't actually look bad. In fact, given a good consistent paint job, the design itself is actually rather homogeneous. It goes well with itself. That said however, this particular ugly is one of the worst in terms of performance. Making this "While ungainly in appearance, Uglies proved to be very effective, able to withstand a lot of damage and often having more firepower than their original fightercraft designs" straight up wrong.

1) It doesn't actually look bad.
2) It shouldn't be as slow as often depicted (y-wing engines on a TIE fighter would propel it much faster than a y-wing simply due to less mass, hence around the speed of a T-65 maybe). Additionally, many DIE-wings would even still have their TIE engines, making them actually faster than a TIE fighter, maybe even faster than a TIE/IN ...unless they were taken out to make room for lifesupport, shield gen, hyperdrive, or reactor (No solar ionization WINGS) etc.. VARIANTS.
3) It's firepower is the same as a TIE/LN, and thus considerably less than the y-wing. And it USUALLY doesn't have shields.
4) in the end, the DIE-wing probably has the most variants and the most difference in scaling between its own variants of ANY ugly. Even so, I would maintain that it doesn't look BAD (maybe OKAY) and that it is definitely underarmed and can't take as much damage.

Description

Uglies were fighter craft made from the debris found at battle sites by mercenaries, pirates and rogues. While ungainly in appearance, Uglies proved to be very effective, able to withstand a lot of damage and often having more firepower than their original fightercraft designs.

A short Q&A on Uglies:

Q1: Can you make dirty/rugged/whatever textures?
A1: We could, but we're currently not planning on making different textures for uglies. We just feel like untextured units take the priority.

Q2: When looking at the ugly it should have this and that particular weapon/defense/whatever configuration, can you make it so?
A2: There are enough arguments to support an almost unlimited number of sensible configurations of ships made of scrap parts, so we pick what's best for gameplay and balance. Deal with it.
