Shouldn´t the shield generator of an X-Wing be somewhere in the mainframe? Most likely behind the Cockpit? I don´t no anything about Star Wars magic engeniering but this one looks like it should have shields and be quite fast, with all the extra power from the solar pannels, but loose some maneuverability compared to a Tie.

Well if you think about it it doesn't make sense to create an Ugly to begin with unless you only had enough parts to create this one fighter.

But if you can create an X-TIE and a TIE-Wing, why not just create an X-wing and a TIE Fighter?

Looking for logic in a universe with laserswords that culminate in an arbitrary point, where there is sound in space and people forget about an order of space wizards that existed for thousands of years in the span of a decade or so is ridiculous. Just sit back and enjoy Georgie's wild ride.

To a certain extent, I agree. It would make very little sense to see x-ties and tie-wings in the same squadron. However, if you only had enough parts to make 1 ships from debris... (I concede regarding all the other points)

Well, I was really just wondering. Lets just say the shield generator is lokated in the X-Wing part of the fighter. There would be just two reasons to not use it. 1: The generator itself is completly destroyed and you don´t have another one, or 2: The generator doesn´t work with the overall construction of the ugly. It doesn´t really matter to me. Like I said, I was just wondering.

Edit: The answere was just posted down below by Strobe

^Very much agree. Not sure how the xwing would be effected other than with less maneuverability, less optimized shields (wings greatly expand shield coverage area necessary), and diminished firepower (not as good point if convergence due to removal of foils). However this would be countered by faster speed, and power increase across the board.

I thought the same, but Kad had a good defense:

To be an “ugly”, the fighter is built from the destroyed wreckage of other fighters. To destroy an x-wing, it’s shields become destroyed, or its shield generator might be sold for other parts. Damaged parts in whole just don’t work as well as new parts, so we have to justify it that way for it to make sense how the authors first described them.

Kad is the “gate keeper” of uglies

I am uncertain if this x-tie has proton torps or not also

It technically could have them, but proton torpedoes are very expensive, so having them doesn't really make sense.

You can't buy yourself a proper fighter like the T-Wing, Z95 or the R14 which where freely available, but then you have enough money to pay for several loadouts of proton torpedoes?
Doesn't really make sense. Why not make money instead by selling the intact launcher unit and pay for fuel with that money?

I know they only ever used by one faction. But since they were a type of Pirates. Will we ever see the Clutch Fighter

Starwars.wikia.com(fighter)

It was a type of Ugly ........

I might be missing the joke by a few lightyears, but you're linking to a Trandoshan dude.

the Clutch was only used by one faction which basically went defunct over a decade before the vong war. I doubt there were many (on the grand scheme of things) to begin with, and i doubt that were was much of a reason to keep them around/maintained what with the demobilization of the NRDF and its conversion into a peacetime organization.

when a military demobilizes after a war, a lot of material tends to be sold as surplus because it simply isn't needed and storing the equipment probably costs more. especially older equipment like in this case, older fighters from the Rebel Alliance era or earlier. a lot of squadrons are going to be deactivated. sometimes they have really good equipment, and that stuff gets transferred into a still active unit or put in reserve. some of the decently good stuff is going to be either thrown into reserve/storage, or sold at a discounted rate to either friendly powers, or to a third party company to sell on the open market.

I can see the NRDF taking inventory and deciding to sell off whole wings of fighters. whatever Z95's they have left, probably most of their BTL-A4 Y-wings and S3B-Y-wings. possibly some of the really old X-wings. they're also going to sell off the parts, manuals, tools, especially if they are ship specific.

this both helps and hurts the "Ugly Market"
it helps because there's a new, albeit temporary supply of parts.
it hurts because there's also a new, albeit temporary supply of military grade fighters and equipment. most of these will go to legitimate concerns like independent states, private corporations, museums, and private individuals; and some will end up on the black market. a lot of the older groups however may sell THEIR old equipment, so potentially pirate and smuggler groups might have new access to old craft like Clone Wars era fighters

Description

X-TIE

Slower than a TIE-Fighter, and without shields, the X-TIE was almost as good as a standard X-Wing, but lacked the maneuverability, especially in low-orbit/atmosphere and was severely hampered, like all Uglies, by the lack of the shielding.

Ugly by Kad

A short Q&A on Uglies:

Q1: Can you make dirty/rugged/whatever textures?
A1: We could, but we're currently not planning on making different textures for uglies. We just feel like untextured units take the priority.

Q2: When looking at the ugly it should have this and that particular weapon/defense/whatever configuration, can you make it so?
A2: There are enough arguments to support an almost unlimited number of sensible configurations of ships made of scrap parts, so we pick what's best for gameplay and balance. Deal with it.
