In other words; we may get to see buildings and ships ingame?

You're already seeing buildings and ships in-game, that wouldn't be a new feature or an improvement over the existing systems.

Think outside the box, stuff you couldn't previously see:
+ More orbital structures than the vanilla two.
+ New visual effects reflecting the state of objects.
+ New visual indicators which reflect new gameplay elements.

DISCLAIMER: Items in this list are examples, not a fixed list of things to appear in the mod. This feature is a complete and utter surprise to us. No planning has gone into how to utilise this feature or whether it will be utilised at all.

What I meant is to see their three-dimensional models rather than their two-dimensional representative image.

Again, of what use would that be?
Those are already displayed in a concise manner without putting too much stress on the game.

We may yet see the importance of certain worlds and have particle effects and ambient effects now take place along with the galactic map. Say for example the Vong Vongform a world, now the galaxy-map will show the effects of it and for heavily industrialized worlds can show the effects. That's what I have off the top of my head but I'm sure we'll all be pleasantly surprised (you guys should trademark that) Damn they beat me to the punch, by like 30 seconds too.

I love Easter eggs.
But we're professionals we would never even consider adding Easter eggs ;)

Just the ability to see or produce more that 2 orbital stations is spectacular. High Five.

Description

Sometimes all you need is a little luck, or maybe it was the Force carefully pushing us in the right direction.
As we've hinted at, we're modernising the mod's framework, and a lucky shot in the dark opened up a path we previously thought blocked.
After dismissing the possibility to dynamically display objects in the galactic map ages ago, we have found a way to pull this off.

Don't be fooled by the screenshot, it originates from the development environment for the new version of the framework, thus none of our custom assets are present. But nonetheless, the giant Tartan Cruiser is a bigger breakthrough than you might think. This Tartan Cruiser is a proof of concept, that we can display and manipulate objects on the galactic map during gameplay without the object being part of any vanilla system like the fleets, planets or buildings.

We can now think outside the box, add or display stuff you couldn't previously see:
+ More orbital structures than the vanilla two.
+ New visual effects reflecting the state of objects.
+ New visual indicators which reflect new gameplay elements.
