So, here is a good tip for all modders:

When working on the detail of such a large model, it is important to keep in mind the “end-use” of the art asset.

Our Executor is going to be on the lowest level of the Z layer, meaning all other ships will be above it. Very rarely during actual gameplay will the player view the Executor from below, which is why we omitted ventral turrets and chose to have less modeling detail. Fewer polygon means easier processing for computers, which allows us to have more higher poly ships on the screen. A good greeble texture can do wonders for performance instead of modeling out all the details - which does look better but is more of a strain. For the purpose of our mod, since we did not want ships flying along the sides or below the Executor, we can afford to simplify by this method. Also, it is impossible to prevent allied units from flying through friendly ships - collision meshes only work with enemy ships, so that was another determing factor to keep the Ex below all other ships.

Just friendly modding advice for all big ship model makers out there ;)

See this is why I'm following this with such interest, there's ideas here that I never thought about or considered, you're putting layered superstructure on the flat planes of the hangar, that's a great idea and can totally salvage my hangar, which I wasn't happy with. Part of the reason I was so disappointed with the lack of geometry in places like the trench was that now there are no more new ideas and variations to come out of such a large project, but this is a great idea that I haven't implemented yet. I like this keep it up!

We try to help, it is much more effective than just bashing other mods or calling a rival artist a “rapist”...

We are all here to make things for others to enjoy, in the end, Modding should be about the fans, this is all for them after all. Good luck with your project Jeroen, it was impressive to see it in the game.
