The Stanley Parable is an experimental narrative-driven first person game. It is an exploration of choice, freedom, storytelling and reality, all examined through the lens of what it means to play a video game.

You will make a choice that does not matter

You will follow a story that has no end

You will play a game you cannot win

...it's actually best if you don't know anything about it before you play it :D

TSP does not actually require Half Life 2 on PC, only the Source SDK which should download automatically when you start the game. On Mac, HL2 is required.

Aw shit, it's announcement day! Y'all ready for this?

First, the launch of my new site and game developement studio, Galactic Cafe!
Galactic-cafe.com
I very literally mean that this would not have happened without the support and love that you guys here on ModDB have shown Stanley Parable. It is because of you that I can now say for sure that I am a game designer. Thank you.

Second, The Stanley Parable: Mobile Edition! Soon when you're describing TSP to a friend and they say "wow that sounds like shit!" you'll be able to pull out your phone and prove them wrong! Or just stop being friends with them! These are both viable solutions to the problem!

Third, new screenshots of The Stanley Parable: HD Remix! Spend the next 6 months oogling over them for clues and easter eggs, anything to answer the most burning of questions about this remake! "How many weapons can Stanley carry at once?" "Will you be able to kill the Narrator?" "Will Stanley ever return to his home planet of Xargnax or will we only see it in flashback?"

And for the ADD amongst you, my twitter will be constantly updated with only the most ripe info on the development of these games.

THE FUTURE IS NOW YOU WILL ENJOY GREAT PROMISE!!!!

This is was pretty epicly amazing.. The narrator was very funny! I would totally love to see a version where the narrator was trying to kill Stanely with traps (lasers, turrets, ect.). Nice job!

So Cakebread (BTW, love the game of course!), a month or two ago I showed a friend TSP. Knowing his rebellious tendencies I fully expected him to get the maximum rebellion ending his first playthrough, and he indeed did; but I underestimated the full extent of his rebelliousness, as not ten seconds into the game he turned on noclip to explore one of the empty offices you pass by at the beginning. I practically pulled my hair out, and yelled at him to play the game the way it was meant to be experienced. He then did so, and enjoyed it; although for some reason he wanted to watch the rest of the endings on youtube rather than play them himself after his second playthrough (although I convinced him to play once more to see the “countdown” ending, and he agreed that that one was better experienced than watched; but I digress). But just today I connected his cheating to what you said on The Stanley Parablog (11-2-11), that TSP was a game in which it was impossible to break the narrative context, and realized that cheating was the one way you COULD break that context, that you COULD do something the game wasn't expecting and couldn't react appropriately to, and therefore break connection with your character.

So that all leads to this thought, the point of this comment: It might be impossible to implement, but if the sequel/remake/whatever to TSP DID manage to successfully contextualize CHEATING (or at least some of the most common forms of it) into the narrative (events triggering when you leave the normal boundaries of the level or spawn weapons? The narrator saying “two can play at that game, Stanley”?) – that would be pretty damn impressive, IMHO. And of course, it could explore the question of what cheating is and whether it’s really possible to cheat in a game in which the very notions of winning and losing are being called into question. Just my humble suggestion, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited at the thought of actually seeing this in action.

You're totally right, I do think that "cheating" is still somehow a part of the narrative context of the game. And however we address it in the HD Remix, I'm sure people will find all sorts of fun ways of messing around with the game on their own terms. That said, we have a little policy which is that if anyone ever suggests a feature, we cannot do it exactly that way. After all, we want everyone who plays the game to be completely surprised! So don't worry, I think you'll quite enjoy the finished product :)

When you see how this mod was made, the play time and all that stuff you 'just' see a simple mod, but when you play it. You see something awesome and very fuuny. How it all works with the voice and what you do. If we just take a look at how funny or good it is I will say 8 or 9, but if you look at it as something that have ben used time on it only 2 or 3. I like the game play but I think it got a to high place in the "Mod of the year" but that my way to look at it but still awesome :D

backfire summed everything up steam-side, but you may also need to enter your steam username in the desura settings so it will know where to install it to.

im assuming you have steam. Go to my library>my games>switch it to tools>download source sdk 2007/2006. There's you half life files for the game. Than you need to install it in which you may need a file extracter program that reads more files and such that come with the computer. Such as winrar or something. I quickly downloaded a really free simple one just called zipreader. Anyway, extract the files, then copy the sub-folder stanleyparable, and place it under computer>program86x(or something)>steam>steamapps>sourcemods. Then restart steam. Hopefully that about summed it up. If you have any problems just look up a guide to manually install mods.
