The Mercury Affair (And it's prequel Seeds of Rebellion) follow the further adventures of Alpha 1 after the end of the Second Great War between the GTVA and the Shivans.
In Seeds of Rebellion Alpha 1 now a squadron commander on board the Aquitaine for a year recieves orders to transfer to a new prototype carrier the GTCa Aethalides. Although supposedly on a shakdown cruise the crew of the Aethalides find themselves involved in a desperate situation in Polaris, where refugees from Capella were beginnning to settle. Out gunned and out numbered the crew of the Hermes must rise to the challenge for the sake of the millions who fled the horror of Capella only to find more horror waiting for them.
Seeds of Rebellion is a 6 mission mini-campaign which will utilise many of the Source Code Projects enhancements in order to provide a richer gaming experience than has previously been possible with the the retail version of Freespace.
Unlike Seeds of Rebellion, The Mercury Affair is a full length campaign. Set 8 years after Seeds, The Mercury Affair follows Alpha 1 who has led a pretty quiet life since the incidents in Polaris covered by Seeds of Rebellion. Now working as an instructor in Vega, Alpha is reassigned to an active mission in Ross 28. Ross 28 is the closest star to Capella that the GTVA have access to. Discovered near the start of the Second Great War. Ross 28 has become the centre of studies into the effect of the Capella supernova on GTVA systems. What should be a routine mission takes a more dangerous turn when secret cargos begin to arrive in the system. What are the GTVA up to out here in the middle of nowhere? As the player follows the mystery deeper it leads to a secret that has been kept for many years. A secret that could result in the end of the GTVA.
The Mercury Affair is a full length campaign. Releases will probably be done in chapters containing between 10 and 30 missions.
Progress on SoR has been slow of late and I've not made much effort to keep this page up to date or release news about SoR. Frankly I've been keeping busy with MindGames and other Freespace related projects.
Well that's all changed as of this month. I've made more progress on SoR this month than I have all the rest of the year. Mission 1 is pretty much as complete as it's going to get for a while.
The mission itself is working and completely playable as a stand alone but a fair amount of stuff is still needed in order to get all the persistent variables stuff to work as part of a campaign.
Work on mission 2 is progrssing nicely too.
I've promised the community on HLP that this after 4 years they're finally going to get to play a mission by me by Christmas and I intend to stick to that.
