Alternately titled "The Lord of the Rings: The Last Days"

A visual conversion of The Last Days of the Third Age, bringing the characters, equipment, and world more in line with Peter Jackson's film adaptions, along with some balancing and gameplay tweaks. Much of the audio has been replaced with superior-quality sounds, and some of the music for battles and towns is taken from the movies. The core of TLD will remain intact to maintain a similar gameplay experience, while removing some of the more overpowered features and changing a great deal of text for consistency.

Additionally, I have included InVain's TLD scenepack, which provides much superior scenes, especially sieges. While I am aware that many of these scenes are less film-friendly than the standard TLD scenes, I feel that the improvements they make on the siege battles are great enough that they overcome the downsides. Perhaps one day I will edit them to be more film-accurate.

Note that this mod is heavily WIP and there are almost certainly going to be bugs (which should be reported here on Moddb as soon as you encounter them)! For now, you may enjoy what is already here, as the game is playable in full all the way to the end of the war for either side, with (hopefully) no game-breaking glitches. I would ask that you please request permission from me before using any resources original to this mod. I repeat, NOBODY IS TO USE THE ASSETS EXCLUSIVE TO THIS MOD WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!

And for anyone complaining that this contradicts Tolkien's books or whatever, I have no intent of using the books whatsoever for reference. My sources include, first and foremost, the movies, then the GamesWorkshop Strategy Battle Game, then any other film-related reference (games, art, etc) and my own ideas. I don't care whatsoever for the books and simply wish to reproduce the look of the movies that I love. This is first and foremost a personal modification, I have simply uploaded it to share with everyone.

Credits to: Blood In The West, Floris Evolved, Gekokujo, The Veiled Stars, and Fred's Bunch-O-Armors for a good number of armors and weapons used in this mod, as well as the basis for my own creations. Third-party credit to the Third Age: Total War mod and its sub-mod, Divide and Conquer, for a bit of concept inspiration. Also would like to extend a big thanks to Jurek over at the Film Armors project for being a good sport and a source of communication and support - please give his mod a look too!

Special thanks to everyone - apparently within 5 hours of uploading this, it is No 1. on Moddb! Really didn't expect this, so again, a massive thank you for all the views!

The sheer enthusiasm and overwhelming response to this mod has provoked me to continue working on it...so here's a list of current planned features for Version 0.2.

Version 0.2 plans (so far):

  • New faction redone: Harad, possibly another by Jurek
  • Previously redone factions improved: Lamedon + Blackroot Vale + Lossarnach (Gondor sub-factions), Black Numenorians (Mordor sub-faction)
  • Make Khand a bit less obviously Japanese - add some Rhun-ish flavors to them
  • "Dol Amroth" sub-faction renamed to "Belfalas" in most cases
  • Attempt to add new pikeman line to Belfalas sub-faction - this is to counter Khand's cavalry
  • Fix the glitched armored warg textures
  • Fix some minor misalignment on orc armor
  • Balance out the remaining Gondor/Mordor/Khand/Rhun/Orc stuff
  • Replace all orc weapons and helmets, as well as whatever else hasn't been fixed yet
  • Continue replacing music with film soundtrack
  • A number of other small additions and changes
  • UPDATED: Brought TLD Film Edition up to latest nightly patch as of April 4, 2017 - this should hopefully fix all of the DX7 and font bugs people are experiencing.
  • UPDATED: Working on getting bumpmaps, specularmaps, and all that good stuff into the mod

Currently, I have completed the Black Numenorians for Mordor (seen below) and nearly finished the rework of Lamedon's units, which will be more in line with GW's units, in addition to some of the smaller changes. Hopefully it won't take too long, but I know that every time I say that, it takes too long - so just be patient for now and keep leaving your feedback, as I enjoy reading what you guys think of the mod and how you think it can be improved. What would you like to see next? Did you find any bugs? What did you like, and what did you not like?

Either way, the next update will likely feature the new Lamedon units, so keep a big, red eye (haha, get it? Like the Eye of Sauron or whatever...) out for more in the future. For now, enjoy looking at this hard-to-make out and somewhat crappy troop tree image of the newly-finished Black Numenorians (you can find a description of them on the actual image's page, here on Moddb):

Could you fix the map so that the Iron hills camp is in the North-Eastern side of Erebor/Lonely mountain...

I doubt that will be the case, I might just re-name it to whatever the mountain range is behind Erebor. If it goes any further east, it will probably end up off the map, and Rhun will crush it very quickly.

Mountain range is the Grey Mountains but they are from the Iron Hills due too the Grey Mountains being infested with goblins (and their home in the mountains being destroyed by the dragons in the wastelands long ago) and the Iron Hills invasion of Rhun forced them to flee them.

Well then. I guess it will just have to remain as it is. I might just re-name it to "Dwarven Quarry" or something generic then to avoid any confusion.

Will you be making the dunedain troops look more like they are in third age?

Not sure if they'll be looking more like Third Age, but they will definitely look different. Jurek has already done a lot of work on them.

Even if they are not in the films or in the books (i belive they where invented by games workshop), do think you can expand the dol guldur troop tree with the castellans of dol guldur(https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/799796254100149494/441969FB66E81766820082FA86CCC6BCF30B3858/)?

I would like to do that, yes, but I am unsure of how to add entirely new troop trees to the game. Additionally, I would need a modeler in order to make these troops as their armor is unlike anything else.
