The Last Days: Film Edition

Alternately titled "The Lord of the Rings: The Last Days"

The Last Days: Film Edition is a conversion of the original "The Last Days of the Third Age" mod, replacing equipment, music, characters, scenes (using InVain's Scenepack) and more with versions which are in-line with those from The Lord of the Rings film series, with a bit of The Hobbit mixed in. In addition to the presentation part of the mod, TLD Film Edition also contains a rebalance of all factions which have been visually reworked, as well as edits to names and quest rewards.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: How complete is the mod?
A: Only somewhat. As of December 2018, Gondor, Harad, Khand, Rhun and the Orc/Black Numenorean factions are mostly complete. Other factions, such as Imladris/Arnor are either unedited yet or partially finished. The mod isn't constantly being worked on, so there is no chance of me giving a release date. That being said, TLD Film Edition is however still fully playable!

Q: What's the difference between this and TLD Overhaul?
A: I can't say for sure what the difference is as I haven't played much TLD Overhaul. I do know that Overhaul is a great mod and highly recommend you check it out if this mod doesn't suit your tastes.

Q: Why aren't X Y or Z from the movies/book in the mod, or why is X Y and Z different from the book/The Hobbit series?
A: This version of TLD is based entirely on the movies (as well as some additional sources for things we don't see, such as the GamesWorkshop strategy game), unlike the original TLD mod. If the book and movie contradict each other, the movie takes precedence.
The Hobbit trilogy is an exception as I really don't like a lot of the art direction in those movies, so some things from The Hobbit may be altered or entirely different (though they will still be based on pre-Hobbit sources, of course). Also keep in mind that a lot of stuff hasn't been updated and thus retains its book-themed look from the original mod.

Q: Can I make a suggestion/report a bug?
A: Absolutely! I'd love to hear your input as well as any bug reports you have. Comment below and I'll reply as soon as I get a chance!

Good news for everyone who thought the mod might be dead - we're still active! However, I've been so busy recently that little progress has been made, and what little is made is directed more toward bugfixes. Ultimately, I decided it was of best interest to simply release what has been done so far.

Version 0.15 contains bugfixes for 0.1, as well as a number of small changes. Most importantly, however, this release includes completed versions of Gondor's Blackroot Vale and Lamedon factions, Mordor's Black Numenoreans, and a partially completed Harad! There is still a long way to go in the development of Harad, but what you can play in this version is mostly completed, sans a few armors and all weapons. I've also included an early, unbalanced import of Jurek_Darkwolf's Dunedain troops. Their equipment and stats have not been edited heavily yet, so they are likely going to be buggy. However, the Dunedain along with Harad are in my plans for the completed V0.2.

Additionally, players who were having problems with the font and shaders should now be able to play the game due to the shader update included in the currently used Nightly Patch!

So head on over to the download page (once the file has finished uploading, that is) and try it out! Fight as the Men of the South and overcome Gondor, or join the troops of the Fiefdoms and repel the invaders!

I ve wanted an answer from someone who really KNOWS Whats the difference, your answer doesnt help me pretty much

The first difference is that his mod is solely replacing armouries in the mothermod TLD while TLD Overhaul is also trying to reform the troop trees and to add new scenes.

Second difference is that The_Idiot is semi-active developing this. He is still working from time to time on new armouries with a nice own touch and will release them in the future as he sees them fit. TLD Overhaul has a team working on it which tries to keep up with the mothermod TLD.

Third difference is - which is usually having another main developer - the different kind of style which was vision for replacing the TLD armouries. It's simply the taste of what might work well with some factions or what they shouldn't look like etc.

You also could have asked your question at the TLDO-moddb page since there is a bit more activity and you would get a quick response. There is no reason to be fed up that The_Idiot gave you an unsatisfying answer. If he wouldn't have answered to you, you would have got most probably no answer at all and then you would be again fed up I would guess.

So the only difference are the troops?

Main difference are troops in their appearance (armouries) and stats (little changes here), yes. More minor differences are in some scenes, TLD Filmedition uses to my knowledge all TLD scenes (correct me if I am wrong, The_Idiot) while TLD Overhaul has replaced a few of them.

In my opinion to make it like a real film edition they Should make a line of main quests that takes the player through every major event from the films

This is harder to implement than it sounds^^

The starting point of the world here is shortly after Boromir got killed at Amon Hen. Right at that moment it gives in the end an alternative story, a 'How it would have been'.
To implement events from the films (and also books) would require
1) that the needed heroes are still alive
2) that the scenario makes sense in the current war (Isengard will hardly siege Helm's Deep if it is itself under big pressure)
3) scripted scenarios for exactly those main quests.

Not to forget that there is a decission needed for at which event we stop. How can we have a battle at the Black Gate if there is still Isengard standing etc. Should the War really end with the fall of Sauron? And so on. It's not like we don't have any ideas and are just replacing stuff^^

Earendil is mostly right, except:

TLD Film Edition makes some changes to troop trees, especially concerning some factions which differ from the books to movies (for instance, Rhun has more infantry than cavalry and the Gondorian Fiefdoms have very different units). The look of Film Edition is based more on pre-Hobbit stuff (BFME, GamesWorkshop, Card Game) as well, whereas I know Overhaul is going for a more film-accurate look.

TLD Film Edition still uses TLD ScenePack scenes as I have yet to find time to work on new ones (I do eventually plan to do so, though, if I ever get a chance!).

Ah, I was not aware that you reworked the troop trees as well, will have a second look at them. Yes, Overhaul has also the Hobbit designs in mind (at least the good ones^^) and not as much orientated upon GamesWorkshop.
