Set in both the heart and outside of City 17, "The Citizen Returns" contains the final chapters of our citizen's story, as well as an updated version of Part II. The story takes place shortly after a failed assassination attempt on Dr. Breen leads to the first ever use of the Overwatch Broadcast system by The Resistance, represented by former garage owner Larry Soderstrom. The Combine forces decide to capture him and try to use his public repentance and execution as a means to appease the emergent rebellion. The Citizens of City 17 however have other ideas in mind. Larry is now a symbol for the rebellion and a key asset in a bigger plot to deal a fatal blow to the Combine and its grip on humankind...

I completed this and first part too. Both are very good.
I found every easter-egg location in the first part and all the letters/notes in this one. (the casino one was evil)

Thanks for these great mods!

I forgot to tell that it's easy to break the game at the ice arena. If I exit the level before all 4 allies do that there won't be a way to continue playing.

We put several systems in place to hold back the level transition until the 4 allies are there, but it isn't 100% fail-proof.
However, I'm sure that if you reach the next map with no NPC allies with you, all four of them will spawn.
In fact, all maps that you start with allies by your side can be loaded separately and the NPCs should spawn in all of them.

Well, they did not. Only 3 were there standing there doing nothing.
I was able to replicate the issue 4 times before I figured out what's wrong.
I also remember the first time I killed every combine and spent at least a minute before went into the next level and all allies left the map before me. Yet when I followed them there were only 3 of them. Maybe one of them got lost before the arena? I started playing again from start that time.

Anyway, that's ok. Maybe this issue is extremely rare.

This mod...Its amazing, its brilliant! Its the Citizen! Lovely job you guys did.

Now, this may or may not be too early to ask, but, have you considered making another Citizen to continue where CR left off, and it goes from there to Episode 2? Because, that'd just be great. I really enjoyed what you guys did, and with the voice acting too.

The only thing I'd ask of, if you did plan to continue the story, is that we have a cameo of Gordon and Alyx, or something, unless its part of you're story that they must never be seen, lol.

There are no plans for a continuation of this story. We have a sequel planned for Random Quest, and perhaps another smaller project as well.
We need to distance ourselves from the HL2 themes a little bit. While there's advantages to building inside an established theme and story, it also limits our creativy, both in the narrative and visual sense.

Depending on when you start shooting, Larry will have a better chance of surviving. If you shoot too soon, you can't really cover him well. The best moment is probably before he actually steps on the platform. The other rebels join in at that point so they should be helping you take of the Combine. Larry also runs and hides in normal conditions.

I tried almost everything, when I say they all turn and shoot him im not jokeing. I turned off AI and nocliped to see who they were looking at. Sure enough, every single combine in the area had thier guns on him.

Soon after I just reloaded and went with the explosives option, that has a good reputation among the other commentators.

I still hate larry. >:(

I really enjoyed this mod, and it's a great example of good design overall. In particular, I like the small details put into this mod that makes it stand out in a positively quirky and memorable light. The character of Larry will be a staple of this mod as the no-nonsense yet laid-back leader of a good majority of the mod. I highly recommend playing the first The Citizen first before playing this just so you can get Larry's full character. This mod also serves as an interesting example of choices…
