Description

The Orion Syndicate is the most powerful, most far-reaching and most feared criminal organisation in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. A significant portion of the organised criminal activity that happens throughout known space is connected in some way to this shadowy organisation, from simple illegal gambling rings, to smuggling and piracy, to slave-trading and assassination. While originating on the Orion homeworld, the Orion Syndicate's influence spreads over much of the Quadrant, and the Syndicate employs many contacts across many worlds. The most ostentatious of these employees include Orion pirates, Nausicaan bandits and Gorn raiders, who prowl forth from hidden bases attacking shipping lanes and vulnerable colonies, sending the Syndicate a sizeable portion of their takings.

Secretive, efficient and utterly ruthless the Orion Syndicate has no moral boundaries and no loyalty to anyone but itself. The Romulans have been known to hire mercenaries through the Syndicate. The Klingons use them to locate and purchase exotic minerals for use in weapons. The Cardassians buy secrets from them. The Dominion has paid the Syndicate to assassinate diplomats in order to promote instability in the Alpha Quadrant. Even the idealistic Federation has been known to deal with the Syndicate clandestinely when practicality demands it. The Orion Syndicate has become fantastically wealthy by taking no sides and offering its services to any and all. The Syndicate can afford to be neutral, knowing that in the end, when the need becomes great enough, the 'clients' will come to them.
