Does it bother anyone else that recon is a close range specialist and yet his best armor tier stops at being a black leather jacket or the SEVA suit and a close cycle anomoly helmet or a gas mask? :( Wish he had some better armors that could actually stop a rifle round. Maybe misery team could create more things like they did for sniper with the ghillie suit?

Maybe a specialized lined coat would be decent? Though I prefer freedom suit for my recon now.

Well, problem is freedom suit is only Medium-Skill level. I am talking a high-rated skill level armor. And yeah, an armor lined coat would be nice. But I was thinking something cool, like assault having exo-suit and sniper having ghille suit, maybe recon has some special spec-ops oriented suit. Like a splinter-cell style black bodysuit lol. Just something nicer than a black leather jacket for a combat suit. And possibly a specialized helmet.

Can't tell you how much I dislike only having gas-masks as high-skill level. I use tactical helmet anyways, but still... Maybe recon can't get tier V body armor, but at least a tier IV chest protection and head protection since your a close-range specialist as recon, I mean even with tier IV or V you still die since almost every enemy has armor piercing ammo and all mutants do crazy damage lol.

Maybe an all black leather suit with police hat, toss in a moustache and voila. :devious: J/K. Tier III will do, since most comes from artefacts defence. So 4 or 5 slots I'd prefer over higher tier defence.

As for a recon I use the 10kg helmet (high) as it has a good rad/tox/psy protection and guard III all over, its heavy though but so what. Also it helps a little with looking in the dark, since it has a soft brownish green hue. It allows me without med/weed to get real close to psy nutties.

Lulz, mustache man.

Yeah TIII armor ain't bad either since most your protection will come from attachments anyways. Just a nicer armor would do I think. Something more like military or spec-ops armor. Maybe something specifically designed to increase stealth? And maybe even helps with stealth against mutants? Since recon is a stealthy assassin, having him capable of stealth vs. mutants with proper armor could be great.

Stealth versus mutants would make no sense and would make the game much too easy for a recon. The mutants sense you in smell and perhaps even psy emissions. He isn't a mutant hunter, though a suit that heightens your ability to not get seen in the open would be nice, allowing you to stalk better. If not then a suit that is decent, light and kind for your stamina. Light and agile too the max with much slots :D

Recon is stealth, not a tank. If you feel like needing more protection, take Freedom or Sunrise suit, upgrade it for more artifact slots and use additional steel body plates and/or gravitational protection artifacts.

Well, I don't mean get in their face and still be stealthy, just if you are in a bush or stalking an animal (not a psy mutant obviously) there are plenty of things that can mask smell at least to an extent. Just offer some stealth, and yeah the being less seen in the open too.

Recon is stealth yeah, but it's hard to be stealthy when mercs literally see you no matter how stealthy you are. Thankfully anti-personal mines help with mercs, since they like to chase you lol. But really mercs... I've been sniping from way across the bridge with a silenced weapon and they still see me from the water treatment plant. And bandits at night for some reason they see you like they got the eyes of an owl.

The Ghillie suit is definetely stealth, however is a sniper type of stealth. Recon might be best suited for a light suit that has a decent defence in my view , recons tend to get hurt more then a sniper, due to proximity. A sniper can even go for heavy armour as he has moderate skills in all armours.

About night spotting the mercs at the WP they use nightvision themselves and are trained to spot at 150. they are trained to spot you and they are the most difficult stalkers I encountered. I find monolith slightly easier then mercenaries. At night it depends really if you have a clear sky or not, they see better then you do in form of detail. Wear headphones and you can hear enemies, mutants stalking about. You are a loner and got to ambush them, if they enter 'hostile' mode they suddenly become very aware. I tend to ambush them often as a recon, with partial cover for guard or from bushes. If you need spotting use binoculars and nightvision (helmet) to check from heights.

Oh, by the way - remember Recon has bonus to drug use. So morphine gives you even more damage protection (or rather painkilling) bonus than other classes.
I always carry a morphine ampoule and inject it just before fight. You might become hungry and sleepy (hell yeah opioids), so take a glucose shot to compensate for hunger (choc bar will do too but syringe is easier and faster to use) and a can of sparkling water or energy drink to wake yourself up. With this and some kevlar protection you will be able to withstand a lot of damage. Good hunting, stalker.
