Had not noticed a thread on this.. What do you think?
Would a mod to include enemy AI-controlled as well as friendly/controllable drones for Misery bring more difficulty, immersion, realism (given the time the story develops) and/or "misery"?
Is it even possible?
Cheers,
Manny

Drones... as in robots ?

Well, either flying, rolling or walking/crawling.. something realistic and up to date.

Helicopters drop out of the sky when piloted by actual people due to anomalies. The sky is certainly a violent place to be in, I could say a drone would in realism be unable to be used, you'd lose contact in no time. Thats my two cents.

Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only.

It is mentioned several times in stalker that it's nearly impossible to keep a vehicle working in the zone... I'm not sure of any 'drones' you'd be able to control that would be less complicated/easier to maintain.

 :)
I'm just seeing this in my mind: since a drone that actually works would be a very big plus/expensive/high-end piece of equipment because of the huge advantages it would provide either NPC's or the player, it should only be available at a very high cost and would have to have special built-in containers to equip special artifacts that would protect it enough to be usable (anti-rad, anti-gravitational, etc.).. maybe it would actually employ an artifact or combination thereof in order to propel itself.. what do you think?
Or maybe even have an upgrade option for an automatic anomaly detection/avoidance system such as that in the Svarog detector.. certainly the technology for the Svarog detector exists within the game at this time.
Or should I just quit it?

There is one dead drone in jupiter. One is enough. It contains locations of strelok stashes. Hint: look in the mountains.

The downed Predator/Global Hawk?.. yeah.. lol.. thx!
WARNING: Spoiler.. Interesting info on it here: Stalker.wikia.com
.. but I was thinking something more portable/personal.. which would enable the HUD map section that shows where enemies/friendlies are positioned (available in vanilla CoP), and that's because I believe the X-Ray engine does not support video-streaming from the theoretical drone to the player's HUD.

I think that it would be an interesting concept but it would def have to be extremely expensive/rare. What about the drone that was supposed to be included in SoC. It could fire small caliber ammunition, or maybe you could take it to one of the mechanics to upgrade the caliber and different functions like special protection and equipment slots like CDIA suggested. Img1.wikia.nocookie.net

Also the mini predator sounds interesting, I liked not having the mini map in Misery but I think that would make a good uber rare alternative. Perhaps the UV's you could get would need protection as discussed and it would be tied to their degradation. So as they're used their condition goes down due to the Zone and when their condition depletes to zero they have to be repaired. Maybe for the mini Cut robot to use its gun you would have to drop ammo into its inventory. I think the mini combat drone would also make an interesting enemy.

Maybe to get the drones you would first have to complete a mission for Nimble. You would have to collect parts to repair the drones like some of the armor attachments like the titanium bands, coolant system and a UPD combined with perhaps a special tool kit they could add into the game and place in the later lvls. After that you would still have to pay Nimble for the drones and they should be obscenely expensive.

Dr., I think you really caught my drift here.. I wonder how much work would something like this need in order to be functional within Misery or Lost Alpha for that matter..

.. I just thought of something, fueled by the good Dr.'s suggestion of "I think the mini combat drone would also make an interesting enemy."
What if the drone actually IS an enemy that must be downed within a new mission (or part of another), and, if lucky or careful/accurate enough, could be damaged just enough to not destroy it, and then be able to capture it after it falls within an anomalous area or enemy territory?
After that, the hunt for parts/tools/equipment to fix it and make it usable again will ensue.
Whatchall think?

The following is a copy of a comment from the Lost-Alpha thread.. jfyi..

.. sorry.. my 5 mins time limit was up before I could finish typing my complete post..Cod? What is that? Is that some kind of fishing game? ;)
I suggested the drone because of the parallel fame/real'life timing (since I see the majority of us S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S.'s aim towards realism/difficulty with a measure of fun as well): as we can see how relevant are drones nowadays, AND as an excuse to be able to bring back - more realistically - the HUD map with NPC's and other items' positions..
Somehow I believe the use of some type of drone for this purpose is much more realistic than, say, having a satellite link and having that satellite specifically follow the player around, conveying all that detailed real-time data efficiently/accurately.. again, as a realistic reason for the existence/availability of the HUD map..
Otherwise, please tell me, since I love to learn, employing what other method(s)/equipment could that type of data be represented in the optional/high-end upgrade HUD?
Thanks for your kind response, if any..
