Hi. I was wondering if there's a way to remove the "cooking animation" and black screen that happens when you cook mutant meat. I have a bunch I want to cook, but there's no ability to cook multiple things in one go, to my knowledge. The moment you hit cook, the raw meat in your inventory gets swapped for cooked meat, but the animation keeps me from cooking another piece, and when you've got over 50 pieces of meat to cook.. that 7-10 second downtime for every piece adds up.

That's called realism, just like using a medikit or stitching your suit. :P You can't cook food quickly and also take note of your surroundings.

Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only.

I know -why- it's there, I'm just asking if I can remove it. Yes, I want to make the game slightly unrealistic :P
There's a handful of things they could have done in favor of realism. Hell, they could have made the animation longer. Still, in lieu of "Cook X piece(s) of Meat", this is a decent alternative. You have to have a balance between realism and practicality. You can use stimpacks in battle instead of medkits, they didn't restrict you to only one way to quickly restore health.

I still need help with this, by the way. :S

The ANSWER!!!!!

gamedata\configs\misc\items\items_cooking.ltx

"cooking_use_actor_effects = true" is the line you need to modify. Set the value to false for the wood stove and the burner and you're good to go.

Just tried it out myself and I'm hunting muties , cooking them up, selling the meat, and rolling in $$$

This is a pretty old thread, but... have you seen the Cooking Rework in the Mod Optimization sub-forum? It lets you cook duplicate meats at once and use the appropriate amount of fuel.
