I been playing for a while and I still can't believe it each time when I'm struck with a bullet(wearing no armor) I bleed out in a matter of 8-10 seconds, even by using a bandage, a military stimpack, another bandage and a makeshift stimpack. If the bullet wound shows bleeding effect as "yellow" (not green/yellowish). There is already no chance to survive even with all that medication popped in. This is extremely frustrating.

Anyone know where/which file I have to edit to make bandage reduce bleeding more effectively? As of now they are of no use to me.

i think you need armor, pretty sure that helps

But until I get that armor on the black road start I would very much love to actually not die from a single bullet in a matter of seconds (if it's not a headshot) what are bandages for if not healing oneself in combat ? The way they work now I bleed out all the same, with them or without them, also I repeat I use stimpacks to NOT bleed out in 5 seconds, but that just delays the inevitable while bandages continue to fail to work in reducing bleeding.
What do I need to edit myself as it is doubtful this will be changed anytime soon ?

maybe you gotta use more

Oct 14 2014 Anchor

I can't use more, because by the time I use two bandage/two syringes I bleed out if the icon of blood drop is indicated in yellow. If it''s red then of course it's death imminent and there's no use even bothering.

I know why now i think, it says it stops bleeding at 39 milliliters a minute maybe, and that's the max it can stop perhaps? like maybe stab a morphine into your thigh or use a survival kit or something.

Morpheine, and the "smaller ones" are very good BEFORE big fights because they also reduce the amount of damage you take...from my experience you have almost no chance when you get hit and bleed yellow or red, even with upgraded suit which has +4 wound healing and an eye artefact which stops 42ml/s you loose too much health so its better to reload...

Bonesetter - You look a touch pale, how about a little injection or two?

That's the catch. I play dark road and when I die, I start over. It's fun, but the bleedout just makes me rage everytime. I do everything possible to avoid death once shot. Hmm, haven't considered survival kit or morphine. Those are hard to come by from dead enemies. Maybe it's worth a shot since I don't know what I should edit for bandage effectiveness.

Welcome to the club of Misery 8)

Focus on avoid getting shot at first place. I know it sounds easier in words. In my games it become my natural habit hugging walls and covers.

AI will NOT spray fire if you are in deep grass cover or behind solid covers, instead they will grenade your last seen spot. So avoid getting shot is pretty simple if you always near cover and always move slowly. That way you can maximize your chance in gun fights.

Oct 14 2014 Anchor

You really need morphine or vinca if you're trying to go unarmoured.

Oct 14 2014 Anchor

Sorta...cover is great, but just keep in mind, that hugging walls will make you clip through it. A good example is watching bandits in a doorway. They sneak up to the wall and you can hit them as they tend to clip through it. So stay a few inches back.

Yeah snorks will get you through walls too. As for bandage use, pretty sure getting shot in the leg or an artery in real life is beyond the healing capacity of a bandage. So I'm ok with that. I think they help more for minor wounds when you want to immediately start moving after an injury without worsening the bleeding.

As usual, the answer to this lies in the tooltips:

Mild bleeding (green) is 0-100 ml/min.
Significant (yellow) is 100-200 ml/min.
Severe (orange) is 200-300 ml/min.
Critical (red) is 300+ ml/min.

The bandage will heal bleeding of 120 ml/min MAXIMUM. This means that bandages will have ZERO EFFECT on bleeding greater than 120 ml/min. You may as well be throwing your bandages away for all the good it will do you if you are in the orange or red. As above, 120 ml/min is on the lower end of the yellow scale. You need better healing supplies to cope with orange and red bleeding levels, as well as almost all yellow bleeding.

Q: But I only have bandages, Stalker! I am so poor. Cheeki breeki :(

A: You can try spamming bandages whenever you get green bleeding levels to reset your bleeding. If you still only have bandages and someone gets you into the orange or red bleeding levels, it's time to just drink your last drop of vodka and wait. It will all be over soon.

Q: I can afford/find better healing supplies, Stalker. What do I use?

A: You have a few options. Morphine ampoules will reduce bleeding by 72 ml/min. I know what you're thinking. Сука, that's less than 72 ml/min. You are drunk! No, you do not understand. While morphine lasts, all hits taken will induce 72 ml/min less bleeding, every time you get hit. You read that right. Morphine is amazing. If a shot from a .45 would normally give you 145 ml/min bleeding (a number I just made up for this example) and put you well beyond the healing capacity of a bandage, you will now receive 145 - 72 = 73 ml/min of bleeding per shot! Which puts that gunshot wound solidly within the bounds of what a bandage can do, potentially saving your life. In addition, you get a large amount of damage reduction, which makes the bleeding reduction more effective in the long run. Note that poor Stalkers may wish to try Metamizole, the poor man's morphine. It reduces bleeding by only 48 ml/min, but costs less satiety (saving money on food). If you prefer pharmaceuticals, Vinca tablets (or Vitamin K) is your friend. Downside? Reduces bleeding by only 32 ml/min, making its usefulness questionable for its price.

Don't want to use morphine? That's okay, you have another option: stimpaks. But Stalker, I'll bleed out! Listen for a moment. Even the worst bleeding will slowly reduce over time. If you are in a life or death situation at orange bleeding level and you've just killed your attacker, take a stimpak. In fact, take anything you have that will restore health. That 1-3% per second may be enough to keep you alive until your wounds subside to a level where bandages can handle it. As far as I can tell, the effects of healing items stack.

Q: That's all well and good, Stalker, but is there anything else I can do to prevent bleeding out? Stimpaks are expensive.

A: Yes, you have yet another option: artifacts! Some artifacts I have found in my travels will reduce bleeding in the same way that morphine reduces bleeding: by preventing it before it happens. I don't have a comprehensive list at my disposal, but you can find one by looking at gamedata\configs\items\misc\items_artefacts.ltx. You can edit the stats of any artefact there as well.

Don't have any artifacts? There is yet one more way to help reduce bleeding. Some armors have (expensive) upgrades that offer wound healing and health restorative abilities. While the restorative effect seems to be pretty negligible for anything but negating the adverse effects of unhealthy food, wound healing will cause the automatic decrease in bleeding mentioned above in the stimpak section to happen even faster. A must for anyone trying to pump bloodsuckers full of lead, if you ask me.

Okay, thank you for this answer to many of my questions.

Note:
I managed to survive in black road for 4 hours gameplay so far and saved. Might even make it out of ZATON for the first time in misery !!1!1!1one!1

Nice job sky. I didn't know these numbers until now. For me green is ok. When I see orange I usually reload the game, chances are good I won't survive the next 30 secs. I have never really bothered with these numbers. Normally sci-medkit and morphine works great. Pop one each and bring out the noise.
