So, any idea how the mercs. seem to hate your guts for no reason? Sure, I get that they are merciless, cruel, and will stop at nothing to accomplish their goals, yet, what goals lie with killing you? I'm pretty sure that whatever mission or task they are to do, it would complicate it if they just started killing everyone they see. Sure, they can always be on assassination missions, yet unless they are assigned to cleanse the Zone with great prejudice, it seems like this aggression is contradicting what they are supposed to do, which is to accomplish the mission they are assigned to do. |

The reason is that Degtyarev's boss got the mission lead instead of General Yougotoski. The jealousy made this General to hire Mercs to show the stupidity of comitting you within this mission instead of one of his guys. |

Mercs have a simple order; eliminate any opposition and you are just seen as a lone stalker that is a security risk. No one likes mercs and bandits associate with them cause bandits do anything for a handful of rubels and therefore can be somewhat reliable. If they knew who you were you'd be ambushed around every corner, much like in Chernobyl the army ambushes you and your fellow stalkers at times. Mercs = Bandits+better weapons and armour. Both are viable targets that won't anger other stalkers when you kill them. |

A security risk is having everyone in the merc base leave to kill ONE guy thats already on the other side of the sodding bridge.That doesn't make any sense. |

Or the fact that Hatchet mercs are friendly to bandits, allowing them to infest their base. Then I come along and the bandits shoot up their base...but the mercs only care when I raise my weapon. Makes no frekin sense at all. |

On the other hand, you can exploit this kind of behaviour by attracting their fire, then sneaking around back to steal the laptop and whatever else you can while they're all out looking for you. I did this playing recon very successfully. (I went back later to slaughter them all the same way - first lure them out, then plant explosives at key entry points. Shoot, run, stop, hide, and wait for the boom!) Edited by: radasil |

My view range is 200.Lowering it helps but doesn't completely negate the problem.If ONE sees you they will all follow you until they kill you.Whether you're in their base or not. |

massive spoiler!I can kill all but 2-3 mercs without them spotting me. Sneak from the left side of the bridge accross the field where a pseudo giants sometimes roams alone. Approach from the side with the small metal guard stand house. If you don't get spotted you can sneak across the wall into the bushes inside the compound about 10 yards away from the truck standing by the two shacks. Have a weapon with a silencer and just kill the nearby merc, he dies no one notices anything and run there to want to loot him... repeat, repeat, repeat. Even if they get hit they can't hear you and if you don't move see you, so they just run about without a clue. Succceeded this as a recon with a mp-5 frasier and a assaulter with a l1a1, but any silent wepaon would do. Usually 2 or 3 stay inside so you got outsmart them differently. I used to go in the tunnel and lure them in but mercs just have a too quick trigger finger and can even fire before you turn a corner, which is logical they are ex military and superiour due to age/experience. -- Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only.
