Shaft brought to life the original concepts from Half-Life's early years. Featuring enemies, areas, and game play features that never made it into the final product! !DEVELOPMENT HAS NOW ENDED!
► Thanks to Matthew "MenteR" Graef for letting us use the charger model from Opposing Force 2.

The op42 team did a very good job making this model, and we wanted to use it for Shaft. Some changes were needed to get it to fit in hl1 without looking weird.
I worked on the animations, and decimated the model to get a closer poly count to other hl1 models. Sgt. Headcrab worked on the textures to get more color, and detail since goldsrc doesn't use shaders to look good.

Good work! I feel like the animation could use a little more work on the easing, but other than that, it's great!
i can't be beat, i won't be beat.
"I CAN'T BE BEAT!" -several men in a tornado
The animation is a bit ridiculous. I think it should look more like a rhino or an Antlion Guard running at you with it's head down, along with the TRex from Jurassic Park's leg movement. The textures don't really fit HL's style, but that's such a small ******* detail who really cares, it still looks great and wouldn't be too out-of-place. The model is ******* perfect though.
Edit: Possibly raising the contrast on the textures and making them more rough and jagged would make them look more HL1.
I think that the textures are already perfect, but I definetly agree with the suggested animations.
I honestly agree a bit after checking out the animation some more with video or other animals with similar legs, and bodies running. I'll probably tone it down a bit.
Oh don't worry, I did contrast the textures to fit the concept art, and knowing how I do stuff though I'll probably touch it up more soon enough.
looks so amazing
i cant wait for this mod its gunna be a blast and bloody nostalgic too
Niiice. Can't comment on technical aspects, but I absolutely like how tail and head move. While it does look funny, I think that's exactly what creature needs - HL1 is not a 100% serious game, less so it's early versions.
This is some pretty damn fine work!
Finally, an update for Shaft and it's ModDB page!
Hey I did the orignal model for OF2 a while ago, while Ulfen did the texture. Good old time...
Good to see it still being used by the community ^^(Since OF2 has not released). That's cool to see that you managed to make it less poly and use it in gold source :). As for the animation, maybe try to make the headbobing less intense as some people said.
Yea, I talked to some other devs, and I will make some adjustments to the animation along with fixing the head bobbing problem.
This model was pretty much perfect, and I didn't see a reason to make a brand new one and let this one fade away.
mmmmm<3 lovin' it
He's a happy little duder!
you have met a terrible fate...
being smashed into a wall by a **** with legs
(jokes aside it's looking great)
ALL RIGHT SHAFT IS STILL ALIVE!!!!
Now this is a welcome suprise! Keep it up fellas!
Good job
The addition of blood colors made it look better than original.
