Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.

Was the design based from the original T-80 model real life?

it looks ALOT more like a t90, notice the lack of the tube on the back of the turret, and the clamshell shape of the era on the turret, the T-80 has a much more domed shaped with its addon armor kits

Clamshell is pretty much reliant the ERA itself, though, and there are clammy 80s too.

Looks like the main difference a 'westernised' turret, with the bustle* instead of whatever device was attached to the rear of the turret on the older variant.

*To paraphrase William Shatner: "What does Carousel need with a bustle?"

T-90AM(M Proriv)/MS clamshell turret.

It's still mostly T-80 though, got that Sosna-U and basic T-64 turret.

@Nuttah, perhaps you're meaning T-84? There's not really any T-80's that have the clamshell turret, T-84 isn't officially a clamshell design either. Most Russian clamshell designs have improved APS elements, as well as the angling of the front of the turret, and a lower RCS.

Nah, T-80BV. Older bricks, so not a clean clam, but still kinda clammy.
And given that it's mere ERA that gives it the shape, they still have 30 years to try that arrangement on it. After all, if you pulled it off of a T-90, you'd be wondering where the ******* 72 suddenly came from! :P

Though, I just noticed, the Kontakt-5 arrangement on the T-80U is a clam too, if you ignore the skirts attached to the bricks making it look hemispherical. I'm guessing those would probably snag on something sooner or later.
