Additional notes to the caption: I know this is a massive redesign of the original ship but I hope it is an improvement! I thought the original Aggressor was not Mandalorian enough, especially when compared to the other ships in the mod and planned for it. The look was off and to be honest, I didn't really like it in the original game either. However, the idea of a massive gun with an engine DID fit the Mandalorian theme and I loved the idea enough to re-imagine the ship in a new light. Feedback is welcome, as always.

Thank you! I always disliked that oversized projectiles coming out of it. I mean it just doesn't fit within all the Star Wars ships and the laser projectiles in general. What you did with the original concept is beyond amazing. Really great work!

I liked the original Aggressor, but as you said this one is "more Mandalorian" indeed.

To be fair, the Aggressor was not really a Mandalorian ship to begin with. It was based on an imperial design that Tyber salvaged from the Death Star.

I don't like the idea of characters coming back to life all the time. Star Wars needs to break way from that ****. Authors scared to take risks by coming up with new people...so lets just clone/resurrect/rebuild/force ghost/hologram/etc the guy we already know.

i do like this redesign alot especially the giant barrels lol, but perhaps bigger or larger wings would fit the design better? not much of a fan of stubby wings

Oh haha, see, the wings were one of the things i hated the most. I dont usually like "wings" on big space craft. I was hoping to design these more like pylons to get the two lateral turbolaser turrets out far enough to give them convergence while shooting forward...since the ship is so long. The wings on the old version were one of the things i thought were distinctly not Mandalorian feeling.

I also think it looks much better now without the wings.

I like it, it's quite chunky now.

Thanks. Yeah wings on most space craft is silly IMO. They serve no purpose other than aesthetic and in the case of the original ship...they didn't add much to that. Lol

Am I the only one out htere who thinks that the barrels could be a bit shorter. In the current state they look really weird.

And maybe some support struts to them. If the guns are stationery then you have to make sure, that they dont vibrate any different compared to the rest of the ship. Feel free to correct me...

Well obviously since I'm the designer I like the barrel length. Lol. However, I did test it with shorter barrels and I just feel that it doesn't look as imposing. The guns somehow seem less menacing when they are shortened. Maybe that's just me.

Also, I had considered support struts on the canons. The reason I did not is that having read many WW2 accounts (journals, biographies, etc) I recall reading in several books that battleship cannons have to remain "fluid" and "flexible" because the recoil is so massive that if they are fixed in any way, they would literally shatter. If you watch Mk7 cannons fire, the barrels fly all over the place. Haha. That's just my two cents anyway.

Given that these are beam weapons, they probably wouldn't have recoil, though.

This said, if they did retract while firing, I wouldn't complain. Probably help give a sense of the amount of power being spewed forth.

I agree. Logically they wouldn't but in Syar Wars, there's sound in space so, I think having a recoil animation would emphasize the amount of power behind the thing.

jirtak No you're fine. You're providing feedback just as I requested. I may still add the struts. Real-world comparisons are usually bogus in Star Wars anyway.

Vithar-133 Giveaway412 Recoil animation could be cool. Space units are very limited in the types of animations they can have though, and even more so when you get to the larger ships. If the game allows it, I will try to add it.

That just makes me ever more psyched. Here's to hoping the game allows it.

Also, in my opinion, if you can't get the recoil animation to work, I think the struts would also help give a visual cue of the amount of firepower the ship employs.

Imperial grade turbolasers had MASSIVE recoil FYI, these beam cannons would be much, much worse... So I can live with the fluid excuse.

"The laser cannons being mounted into the open skeletal frames required bracing and recoil-dissipation casings that would have withstood explosions measured in the giga-tonnage range. Anything less, and a single shot fired in battle would rip a destroyer or battle cruiser in two, a victim of its own lethal strength."

Energy weapons with recoil never made sense to me. It's not like a slug thrower with explosive or concussive force expelling something with mass. It's literally just light... However, within the Star Wars universe, physics don't apply. Either way, that's an awesome excerpt.

Theyre probably still called lasers because in the old days that's what they were, in the galactic civil war era they became plasma bolts however, and that was considered a giant leap from the hyperspace wars' beams. Or just named that way because sci-fi in the 80s

While it looks great, much much better than the original and You kept the engines which were the best part, I do agree it could benefit from shorter barrels so it looks completely armored, alternatively support struts around the final exposed parts could work too, fixed guns need support.

And thank god you got rid of the vanilla particles and firing that **** was ******* grating, curious to see the particle in game.

I'm not a fan of the redesign. It looks great, same Farseer quality as always. But I don't like it, because you made it look too mandalorian. I often feel like one of the most nitpicky people, which is why I don't comment too often, but I can't let this slide. The Aggressor was an imperial ship, I'm making an educated guess when saying KDY, but just look at the Merciless's command bridge, that might as well be the KDY logo. Just to clarify, I think it looks great, I'm just picking some nits.

It was concieved solely for this game and stealing it from the death star was just a plot device, hence they also stole the designs, not actual prototypes. It makes no sense for the mandalorians to modify it as they wish, especially since this is way past the time of Tyber.

I tend to agree with _W_'s comment here. The Aggressor was designed solely for FoC and the backstory was nothing more than a plot device. I tend not to consider FoC canon. I know that it's lame to cherry pick what is and isn't canon... I don't do it often but FoC was just so bad story-wise.

However, even if we do want to go with FoC's canon and consider it a stolen Imperial design... One could just as easily say that it doesn't look imperial at all, aside from the shield generators. It was technically a class of Star Destroyer but it looks nothing like any other ISD class I've ever seen...

Lastly, even IF Imperial and even IF a class of ISD, that doesn't mean it needs the iconic shield gens and everything else. There are many ISD classes which don't have the shield gens, or even the bridge/control tower.

Will the beam laser have a fire arc ? I assume not since its a fixed barrel but that would limit its use.

I would love for the ship to simply maneuver to face whatever it was firing at but especially for ships at different vertical placements, that's just not possible. So, for gameplay only, the beams will have a cone of fire that they use to target within.

Description

A totally new design, the Aggressor-class is so stereotypically Mandalorian that it's almost comical. In fact, it can be accurately stated that the Aggressor is not a ship but rather, a gun with an engine built around it.

Because of their small numbers when compared to the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic, the Mandalorian navy decided that rather than trying to compete with numbers, they needed a capital ship that could provide the stopping power of several ships but all condensed into a single craft. The Aggressor is the product of that research. While it is a capital ship by size classification, it has no hangar bays or extra peripherals as the entire ship (aside from crew quarters) is devoted to the massive powerplants needed to fuel the colossal main cannons, the shields, engines, and secondary armament.

Another notable aspect of the ship is that it uses beam laser technology in the main cannons. While these types of lasers are not unique, they are highly uncommon especially when employed in guns this size. The two cannons deliver a sustained pulse of intense firepower that obliterates targets quickly and eats through shields but requires ample time to recharge.
