Seriously. I have wracked my brain for several weeks on this thing, and got few good results. The problem is the NR fills it's niche with it's primary attack alone, and needs little else. But it can't just not have a secondary; that's a bad preceedent to set if nothing else.

Options so Far
Glob of Sticky Napalm
Pros : Add a degree of anti-vehicle without making it a counter because of the Damage Over Time nature of the attack.
Cons : It's from shockwave, does the NR need anti-vehicle?

Blowtorch
Pros : It makes sense. It would look fairly cool.
Cons : Haven't actually knocked out a decent function for it.

180 Degree Burn
Pros : Very burny, proven gameplay element from Generals
Cons : MIght make primary fire kind of pointless

Stun Grenade
Pros : Locks enemies down for burnanation
Cons : Thematic? Similar to Defender?

Tear Gas Grenade
Pros : Use of the cover system (places enemies in negative cover)
Cons : Fire weapons actually don't care about cover either way

Reload (Like Peacock)
Pros : Restrains powerful secondary, prevents flame spam
Cons : Might limit use of flamethrower as jungle clearer (is that a con?)

Combat Sprint
Pros : Allows slow Napalm Ranger to catch up to fleeing enemies
Cons : Is it worth doing in combat if they are already running? Is it in his niche?

Evil Laugh
Pros : Hilarious
Cons : Non-Functional

I support the Evil laugh (Mwahahahaha) and the blowtorch. For a use for the Blowtorch, perhaps it could be used for welding friendly tanks back to health.

Switch between intermittent powerful long(er) range burst and short ranged continuous attack?

180 degree burn (maybe less - 120 degrees maybe?) - as you said, a proven tactic. I can imagine the primary attack has a (little) higher range and damage in a straight line, while the secondary is effective vs groups but individual targets can attack it better. Maybe he has to stand still to use the secondary?
Alternatively, the napalm blob as a kind of land mine.

I agree, 180 degree burn has proven a useful tactic, so that could definitley work. Otherwise, maybe he could light a patch of ground on fire for a while, to damage anything there.

I like the sticky napalm

Go with 180, I'd say, though make the range pretty short.

I have a whole new idea, if you don't mind. The Ranger blows out the pilot light, and covers the enemy in gasoline, making it more vulnerable to other units' attacks. Useful against battlesuits and light vehicles.
