Is this additional engine module something you can research for all destroyers or is it a destroyer by destroyer upgrade like a hyperspace module is for the battlecruiser?

Incredible asthetics aside for a moment, would this extra engine actualy be worth the investment? Yes, I know, destroyers can be hellish slow sometimes, but will this actualy be worth sacraficing an extra weapon for? What sort of speed or manauverability bonuses would this grant us? Most importantly, will this extra engine allow heavily damaged destroyers escape quickly or would it have been better to hold their groud with an extra gun and call in the repair ships later?
Right now it has 55% speed boost (it was even 80% before), I'll have to test if it's too much or not, but they are not faster than frigates.
Now what you can do is to look at this from the other side. Would you prefer to have Destroyer with 1500 damage and on top of that also a lot faster? I don't want people to see it as a worth sacrificing one weapon slot, I want them to think about if it is or not. But what I definitely don't want is a Destroyer with 5 weapon slots and one extra module slot, because that would really be way too much. Maybe it is, maybe it's not worth it, but this module won't prevent you from still making faster and at the same time stronger destroyer variations.
And yes, it will definitely help you to run away from enemy.
that bottom weapon slot was kinda pointless all by itself since it didnt really cover the bottom of the ship that much. i would rather have an extra bank of engines or other support instead
There'll also be the defense field generator and some people requested a sensor array, so maybe that as well (but I personally don't see the point of it).

Ah, I don't think I mentioned it, but what about a production module? Drone production and/or probe production module? Eventually the Hiigs will have drones, so it would be a good idea to make the module now while you're working on the destroyer.
You did a great job smoothly integrating the engine module with the rest of the ship. I really only can imagine detail improvements to the textures because it's so perfect already.

I've made a suggestion about the extra engine texture over at RNF but I see from here that you may be done with it for now.

may i surgest bringing the two engines up slightly and out to the side more to maybe look more like small fins?
I won't give you karma down for your imagination, but if this looks like a pair of balls, you'll definitelly see a ***** in the defense field generator I've done yesterday...
well the bottom turret never really covered the bottom very well all by itself, itd be the same as if all the guns were on top. itd be fine if there was more than just the one gun on the bottom. if a cap ship is going to have upgraded sensors it might as well be a internal thing or built in the module thing seemed silly. is the defense field module going to do something like the df frigates? when activated it opens or something? and i just realized relic was going somewhat for a WW 2 or earlier thing with the destroyers. at least the turning so they were attacking broadside
I'm still not entirely sure that I'll keep the defense field module I have, I'll upload a picture of it soon, but it will be all time open device similar to the one of the defense field frigate. Subsystem animations are almost impossible. I'm saying almost, because there are still some tricks that will most likely fail.
I can see now why people recognise them as "balls" - I think youd do better if youd move them a little closer together, kind of bringing them closer to one shape instead of disrupting the ships flowing shade with those two engine-cabins.

You have to research it and then you can manually build it on the bottom weapon slot on single modular destroyers.

Thanks. Yes it can be improved, but to be honest I don't believe this particullar module deserves much more attention, I'll see.
And now I'm trying to find what did you say about these modules. I think I liked one of your ideas, but I don't remember what it was.
