What started out as an experiment as a phantasm mod for doom 3 back in 2006 evolved into Phantasm Beyond that went from a demo to covering all 4 philms in a game created modification using idTech4 and the doom 3 game as a base to build from. since then much progress has been made with new features and elements for creating new content and excitement. This project in particular I'm looking forward to developing further and having a REAL blast with this time around. Thanks everyone for your interest and will be posting progression reports on here and youtube as well as on the phantasm community forums. All the best and beware the tallman...... boooyyy!

When I played this phantastic mod on my laptop I had no problems. My desktop is another matter that I'm having some trouble resolving. Basically, a good 60 - 70% of the textures show up black and do not reflect any light until facing them at an odd angle where they show up sort of mud brown and all lines and even then very dimly. Some will sort of show up when walking away from them. The rest of the textures show up fine, but generally walls, floors and ceilings show up black.

As far as I can tell, all the PK4 files are there, all the textures are there, the textures load up (the only "not found" files are something to do with the "shared pallete" file. *edit* That's probably the problem, but I have no idea what to do about this.)

I've altered all the graphics settings, changed and then reset the config files with no effect.

I think it's a shader problem, but it's only affecting this mod and not the original D3 game.

It's the original D3 game, fully patched, no steam version.

Any ideas what it might be (assuming it isn't the shared pallete file)?

Hi I'm just reading this now sorry for a late reply, a shared pallete? never heard of anything of the sort, I've never used any. all I can think of is to check your base folder for any clean files or odd mod files that may interfere being on the desktop setup. another thing would be ATI vs. Nvidia video cards, as ati has had some issues with d3. and when textures show up black it's usually a pathing issue with materials, but if it worked on the laptop it should work on the desktop so it's not the mod. let me know how things go please and thanks!

After doing some digging online, all I could find is one website that indicates it has something to do with text description files in the base folder that cause the game to load (or attempt to load) two sets of textures. Doesn't say which ones, though. I'll figure it out eventually.

It's possible of lower quality settings that it uses DDS over .TGA on higher settings, as Ultra uses tga where lower settings use .DDS that could be the difference now that I think about that. be sure to use Ultra as most textures are .TGA and dds are a limited few.

The fifth movie is out, so it's interesting, will the mod be continued?

I would like to build a bit of a continuation in some form and maybe add some other bits as well to make it interesting. Ravager is like a series of shorts to me, so working with that will take some retooling to make a game from that that is fairly decent and playable. I'll have to see how that goes, but for sure I'd like to add more to the mod sometime.

Really nice work on this mod,

Firstly, I loved watching the movies in my youth and even now of course, so the idea of tying them into a FPS appealed to me greatly. I really appreciated the film-specific details you poured into this mod, and considering you are a one-man-band you deserve even more kudos for such a huge undertaking.

I thought the overall level design was sober and consistently well done, there were never times where I thought "wtf am I supposed to do" everything was clearly laid out and things kept rolling along nicely. I suppose it is a little rough going at times difficultly wise, but the object is not to kill all the monsters, so sometimes you just keep moving forward.

I played through using the V5 patch and didn't encounter any serious issues. One time a script didn't initiate when I blew up a hell-hound with an explosive barrel but after reloading a save and killing it again by shooting at it everything went smoothly. Other than that, minor glitches like Dwarves clipping to the architecture, that's about it.

Making use of the neat custom soundtrack feature really added to the atmosphere - I chose some songs from the Supernatural Soundtrack that seemed to fit perfectly, it really added something when exploring the levels.

Once again, great work!

Thank You for taking the time to share your thoughts on this project. I truly appreciate it very much... :) I often wonder if anyone really uses the custom tunes feature at all.
Thanks!
