Game Overview
Philosophy
This Mod is intended to be the ultimate squad tactic test. It will be almost impossible for one person to win any conflict alone in this mod. It will take team of people coordinating an Onslaught to get into the nearly impenetrable bases on each side. There will be several buildings in each base, Head Quarters, Barracks, Motor Pool, Armory and of course defensive structures such as towers, walls, gates and turrets. But the main 4 building types are the keys to the mod. With out control of your 4, your team is bound to lose.
The Meaning of Strife
Don’t let your squad down by dying! The entire meaning of this mod is squad cohesion and tactics. This does not mean teams are in anyway limited in number, composition or tactics. Improvisation and Intelligence are some of your best weapons.
Be Prepared
A team Commander has to take charge of resources allocation and command and control. These elements make communication and planning key factors in a victory. There will be precious few standard items spawned, players will choose what vehicles are wanted, what weapons are wanted, defensive elements and placements, all purchased with a team resource pool that will be regenerated according to performance.
Execute the plan
Getting squared away at the base is nice and all, but an all out Onslaught is the goal. Once you have a squad together, or strategies at all, get in to action. Whether it is a mine placement detail of 2 guys in a buggy or a sniper/spotter combo on foot.Get moving! No plan is any good with out some bullets flying!
Common Questions
-Why not just play TF or Counterstrike?
The squad emphasis in Onslaught is unmatched. You will see clans with specialties going against other clans with specialties. Entire philosophies being tested along with the metal of those players involved. There is no “he is a good shot and jumps a lot”. It is They are a great clan and can’t be fooled.
-Why create this Mod?
This mod will take advantage of the coming of age of all of us FSP lovers. Simply being able to jump around and pop caps is great fun, but there are many people who want more. There are already a few games out there that are trying to take care of that need, but none with the scope and passion of this mod.
-Goals?
There will be multiple goal structures. Standard Onslaught will be to get someone into the enemies HQ and destroy something. A CTF mode will be essential as well. “Hack Attack” where you must get a special class player (hacker) into the enemy HQ for a certain amount of time (so he can HaX0r’em).
-Where does the game take place?
Near-modern day, no-man’s land. The two bases face off against each other across devastated terrain. With the help of the source engine, we are able to have a more vast terrain than ever. Battlezones will include urban cityscapes, as well as natural surroundings such as deserts and forests.
-What about vehicles?
Vehicles will form an integral part of Onslaught. There will be Tanks, HummVees, Bradleys or Strykers, possibly even Helicopters! I am sure there will be a lot of gate crashing using tanks or bradleys, then dumping the squad as close to the Enemy HQ as possible. This basic tactic will also be able to be out smarted with proper planning and coordination.
Characters and Classes
There will be a small selection of classes with customisable weapons and equipment load outs.
Each class has set Strength determining how much they can carry and still maintain speed. If you're carrying too much equipment you can't run as quickly.
The classes and default load outs are as follows:
All classes can carry the following equipment:
Commander
Able to operate the Command and Control Interface.
Able to send subordinates to the Brig (eg. if a player is team-killing).

Lieutenant

Squadie
The basic and most versatile class.
Health 100

There will be no more than 1 hacker per team.

Automatically recieve the laptop as Accessory.
Main weapon can't weigh more than 10lb.
Hackers can use their laptop to:

No more than 1 sniper for every 4 players.

Additional Equipment:
Automatically recieve ghilli-suit(camo) as Accessory.
Main weapon must be sniper rifle.
As some of you may, or may not, have noticed: this page has been a bit quiet for a long while.
This is because the mod has been 'put on hold'.
I'm not going to make excuses, saying we're taking a break or we're all too busy in RL at the moment: our development forum has gone quiet and I've lost contact with several members of the team. This is most likely due to a lack of progress on the coding front: partly my fault, although severe Steam problems prevented me from accessing HL2 for several months.
N.B.: This is not to say the mod has been cancelled. When the time is right I will attempt to get in touch with the other team members.

I'm nearly ready to post some nice screens of the new map I have been working on, so watch this space.
Hopefully people will set up clans to eliminate the arguing over who gets to be the commander.

Can tell by just reading the concept that this mod is going to be great, cant wait to play it :D
The commander does recieve extra health, but he has a lot more responsibility. He has to man the Command Console to mark waypoints on the map for the rest of the team so that they can coordinate attacks and tactics.
Lieutenants have less health, but do the job of leading the team out in the field- another important responsibility. At the moment we're considering giving lieutenants the ability to take control of enemy buildings. Taking over the entire enemy base would be another victory condition.
That is not the only goal of this mod :) Modern combat tactics, command and control, communication and so much more will play a role. Not to mention how well suited for high level clan tournaments this mod will be... Thanks for your feedback though.
