No one can recall quite how it happened, but at some point there was another world war and after the bombs fell, the Earth was left in ruins. The former Yugoslavian republic of Serbia suffered massive devastation to it's land, but the great capital of Belgrade although damaged severely, had survived the conflict...
The New Yugoslav Army or Army Of New Yugoslavia (Vojska Nove Jugoslavije / Војска Нове Југославије) are a group of communist militants who share beliefs similar to that of the government of the Social Federal Republic Of Yugoslavia (SFRY). They mostly made up of surviving hard-line communist enthusiasts from before the war, though some members have discovered communism from the irreligious nature of some communities.
They idolise Tito and believe that capitalism and religion caused the war and eventual destruction of the city. They have several territories in and around the rural areas and industrial complex and even operate their own border checkpoints where people must have a passport or other form of identification to pass through. They fight against nationalists and religious cults, who share hatred for the communist regime. Anyone taken prisoner has to choose to either convert to their cause or die.
If you can avoid them, if you must face them, do as they say without question or you'll regret it. If you must fight them, Make sure you win...
This isn't perfect but I think I spent too much time on it as it is when it's just meant to be a concept. The final model will look a bit different to this and I'll have some variation in equipment and BDU with different headwear too.

It's actually painted from models posed in HLMV fused with photos of various armed forces and police in Serbia. This isn't a proper 3D model yet.

You know, most of those guys will likely miss the point that this is a fictional setting...
Well it's clearly a fictional setting, given that it's about the aftermath of a nuclear attack on Belgrade :P
There is only really one religion in Serbia and that's the Serbian Orthodox church. The communist belief I'm pushing here is like the dark days of the USSR, when Religion was sought to be replaced with Atheism, only here they blame religion for the end of civilisation.
On one other side, the nationalist group are loyal to the church and look back towards the glory days of the Kingdom Of Serbia when the Monarchy was still present.
Then there there is a cult which has established a brand new religion whereby they believe the world was destroyed by a giant worm that lives in the Earth's core...
