Patch for MINERVA: Metastasis. Fixes Problems caused by May-2010 STEAM /Engine update which screwed up a bunch of mods. Q: Do I need to patch? Telltale signs... Black waves, sky looks funky. Crashing, locking up (Video frozen, sound looping) after you've blown the door in pic...and you try to pass thru the doorway.
11-04-2010 ver of SilverMink/Daftmink's patch in 7z (7zip-Free zip/rar program- ), OR exe format.
(Pick one)

Patch Addresses problems caused by May-2010 STEAM "update" /HL engine (Mac enabled) rewrite.
EG:
Black
waves, Crashing/Locking up, Video frozen with sound looping-unable to
proceed thru doorway after door blows as noted in preview pic.
(Differs
from 09-2010 V4 patch in that no manual editing, extraction game system
files are needed... Just extract files from 7zip into game directory-
Or run exe of exe version.)

Background:
May-26-2010 Valve pushed out the door a *major engine rewrite of the game engine that added a couple of features. One feature designed to increase Valve's bottom line was that is was
made Macintosh (Mac) compatible. Due to the changes the way the engine
functions has been changed slightly-hence allot of older mods that do
not reference the SDK but instead the game itself don't run correctly.
AFFECTED PERSONS:
This (Non-reversible - No way to roll back, can't uninstall it!!!) "updated" game engine was pushed out to anyone who has been online on or after May-26-2010 and allowed a auto /manual STEAM /HL2 game files update.
Note to Valve, Inc- when you come out with a new software revision... You need to provide a way for customers to revert back (Roll-back) to a previously working state. Not cool that once a update is pushed down the pipeline and customers are being negatively affected that there is not some type of (A) "compatibility mode", Or (B) the new game engine is not programed to "look" at the gameinfo.txt and load the correct parameters.
A: If the game doesn't load after so many tries, experiences problems a pop-up box should appear, or there should be a tab within STEAM that allows some type of compatibility mode.
B: New gameengine should be programed to "look" at gameinfo file- and it automatically apply, or have options to manually set correct parameter needed.
Either that, or provide customers a way back to a working state...

Thanks! Happiness may now resume.
Thanks CargoCult! This is still one of the best mods out there.
Thanks you! This is my favorite sp mod.
I installed above patch, by my game still gets frozen after I kill all the overwatch that show up after door shown in above screenshot get blown.
I have both episodes installed. Any ideas of what I can do? I liked this mod and would like to have a chance to finish it :/
Part 1 of 2
This is from memory- as I haven't played for a while.
Steam /Valve around May-2010 pushed out a non-reversible (cough-cough) "update" to the game engine that screwed up a bunch of mods.
(Thanks Steam, push a update and make it so you can't roll back if there's problems with it.(LOL)
Hey Steam/Valve... keep in mind it's the MODS that's kept people interested (buying) the core game(s) between the YEARS that go by it takes for the next "official" episode to come out.
You guys need to code the "new" engine to "fall-back" to the old engine /have new engine emulate old engine /allow someone to roll-back to a previous version.)
According to Adam Foster, the creator of Minerva Metastas one of the changes was the "new" engine can't "track" for a lack of a better word as many enemies /events as the old engine could... Hence the crashing when too many enemies are around.
(In some of my previous posts- I have a link to Adams posts explaining the problems- along with references by Adam saying he would issue a "patch" to patch the mod. In my travels on the net I never found the promised patch.)
With Mr Foster's talent (Creating Minerva) and DIRECT access to those that coded the "new" engine- Since Adam works at Valve it would probably take him 1/100 the time to issue a proper patch... than those who are "on the outside".
Part 2 follows:
Part 2 of 2
Info on this user created patch:
No patch issued by mod creator.
This patch published by SilverMink IIRC...
In most cases patch will allow playing thru the section noted in the above screenshot.
My experience with the patch (Which I uploaded here in both zip and exe formats)
Crashing went from 100% of the time to around maybe 2%.
Crash occurs as soon as you step thru doorway.
*******
Sort of a loss right now on a step by step on what to do besides the standard stuff:
A: Uninstall mod- delete mod directory, re-install.
B: Update your video drivers (longshot)
C: Defrag, scan hd for errors/bad sectors.
D: Disconnect from net. Uninstall Half-life2 completely, re-install from physical disc-
Once re-installed -disable "auto-update", so the game uses the old, Pre-May 2010 engine.
(In this scenario no patch will be needed- and all your old mods should work.)
E: If installing from physical dsic is not possible and STEAM auto installs "new" game engine...or above doesn't work
Change game settings to EASY (to minimize number of enemies.)

(Gee- Still down? Checked about 6-8-12? months? ago -Was saying forum close due to spammers..
Guess we'll never see a "official patch".)
Have a IDEA....
How aboutA:
A: Adam creates a proper patch
B: Makes the forum READ-ONLY?
Impression I get is he does not care about the creation that got him the job at Valve.
